Hey guys,
My mom just got a Tribeca. Gosh, I'm glad I talked her into test driving a Subaru. I haven't driven it yet, I am waiting for her to finish breaking it in
I was wondering, does anybody actually know why Subaru chose the name "Tribeca"? I mean, aside from being a place in NYC, what does it represent?

 It's named after the area in NYC, to give it an upscale image I suppose. i would have preferred Adirondack or Surveyor.

The name Tribeca actually came from the third of 3 jewish girls born to Sid Merman of Brooklyn. Sid was well know for his accounting skills around the old neighborhood, and it would not be uncommon for his relatives from Jersey to visit during the hottest days of august when Sid's wife Selma might be shopping somewhere along Canarsies Avenue J.
Yo, taxi-1, youse from Shaffer street or what?
Methinks you are from Yonk-ers or something, wise guy!
Oy-vey!
Keep it under 90, (and driving in New York, that ain't hard to do) folks! ;)

Benign? Non-dangerous?!?
In reality, though, I checked one out at the dealer, this is a very well-built vehicle. I think it would be a perfect family mover for the wife and kids when the Forester finally dies.

B9 is some sort of model code. Other Subarus may get code-related names too. eg Impreza replacement might be B3.

TRIBECA means "Triangle Below Canal" Street; It is an area of Manhattan in NYC which became trendy after SOHO (area "South Of Houston Street") became way too well known by cognoscenti and developers. Among the many celebrities that live in Tribeca, perhaps the most famous could be Mr. Robert De Niro (Tough guy movie actor and director). Another famous resident of TRIBECA was the now defunct Mr. Kennedy and his also now defunct wife, Carolyn Bissett Kennedy.
TRIBECA, before becoming trendy was zoned for industrial and commercial uses, with some minor residential pockets here and there, not unlike SOHO in its previous incarnation; as a matter of fact SOHO was well known for its meat Packing District, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that both SOHO and TRIBECA each underwent a metamorphosis from a rough, tough, urban industrial district with affordable rents, and into a suave, sophisticated, desirable, expensive and exclusive status almost overnight; which is exactly the same thing that SUBARU is trying to accomplish. Is it not? :D
Now the "b" in B9 obviously stands for BIG and the "9" stands for nine.
