View Full Version : Underseat sub update, 10 shipped!
raamaudio 06-23-2005, 01:26 PM 10 units are out now, this includes the first and second prototypes.
Starting a new batch in a couple of days or so once I get my web site straightened out and my employee back from a wedding trip. I do all the prep work, he just glasses and sands, then I do the finish work.
I am trying to find a reliable source to manf these for us, we are not setup to do production work so it takes us awhile to do this, just hard to find a good manf, went through two unsuccessfully so far:( In the mean time we will build as many as we can to get you guys taken care of.
Intro price on the first ten units was $499, on the second ten units was to be $549, after that $599. Due to the long wait everone went through I will honor the $499 price for at least the next batch of ten, we have 5 deposits on them so far. The price includes a fully finished unit with an Arc Audio 10" sub that retails for $219 included. This is one of a few subs that will fit and by far the best sounding sub as well for this application. For a unit without the sub, the price will be $100 less( I am an authorized OEM manf for the use of the subs)
If interested please email me, raam@raamaudio.com
Thanks!
Rick
braveit1 06-23-2005, 02:35 PM Would you repost the specs on the unit? Size, dimensions, power, sub make/model so that late commers can evaluate if it'll fit on other subarus.
jigga 06-23-2005, 02:49 PM I would like one, but seems it won't fit under my seat:(
Do we know this as being the case for sure on the 02 cars?
raamaudio 06-23-2005, 02:52 PM It will only fit in 04 and newer Impreza based cars, all models. It may fit in earlier cars with aftermarket seats. It is designed to allow the backseat heat ducts to still function and around this particular sub, chosen for it's outstanding performance in SQ and fairly high SPL output:
Sub: 10" Arc Audio, D2 or D4 depending on amp being used. 15mm xmax, RMS power 250 watts, max power 500 watts(I have ran them at 400 watts RMS just fine), recommened box size is .65, small box is .5, our enclosure is .62, biggest we could make it. Cutout diameter is 9.25", mounting depth is 5.5" (we have to remove the motor rubber cover to get enough clearance)
This sub could be considered the great grandson of the famous IDQ that has won more SQ competitions than probably any other sub in history;)

remowgn 06-23-2005, 05:06 PM If there's anybody out here in southern california who has purchased one I'd love to check it out. I'm very interested, but a little leery about giving up my JL 12W6. :)
retarded boostard 06-23-2005, 05:30 PM Pics please!!!
raamaudio 07-01-2005, 02:42 PM Pics will be back once my web host transfer is completed, last company died and left me stranded:(
Four units are now glassed, just have to put the tops on, sand, carpet and install the subs, the other 6 should be done by Tueday and some ready to ship that day as well, all should be ready to ship out by the end of the week:)
Only three left without deposits and several members are about to jump so if you want one, go for it:):)

AcquaCow 07-03-2005, 12:52 AM OMFG!
So I finally got a chance to help install/set one of these up in a system.
BryanH and I did Jard's STi install today.
a/d/s components, Tweeters in the A-pillars and Rick's Arc Audio 10" under the passenger seat.
AMAZING what kind of bass response you get in-cabin with only 200wrms. I was impressed.
I now need to find a way to fit that box into my RS somehow :( Having a box in the trunk just won't do anymore.
Thanks Rick for making this possible!

raamaudio 07-03-2005, 02:34 PM Thanks for the very nice review Dave! This has been a very long and difficult mission, so many road blocks outside of our control, finally said to heck with dealing with others and just make them. They are very labor intensive and not the best things to do at home but we made a commiment to you guys and just had to make it a reality.
We are moving soon and are looking for a place with a really big garage to wall off a part of or a nice shop on the property(prefered). I have spent the last 5 years working towards being fully self employed and working from home so this is very important to me to have a proper place to do this since we could not find anyone to do this correctly and are building them ourselvs.
(I spent 10 years travelling for work as a civilian and 20 in the USN, I just want to be at home now except road trips to shows and races:)
Have a great 4th!!!!

TurboRex 07-04-2005, 12:50 PM What amp goes with this and what wiring is included? I know little about required wiring.
Thanks,
Greg
BryanH 07-05-2005, 10:47 AM Hey rick,
The little pads for the seat slides you sent with the sub...Can you please provide a few pics or clarification on where they should go? I dont think we put them on correctly.
BTW, Jards system is an Alpine hu, alpine 3555 amp, a/d/s 345is mids, a/d/s PX tweeters, custom remapped a/d/s crossovers, and your sub. It does sound nice.
TurboRex. The wiring is a breeze as he included a terminal cup on the enclosure. Just plug it in and go.
Thanks
Bryan
elhalisf 07-05-2005, 11:08 AM I recieved my box about a week ago and finally got a chance for the install yesterday. The box finish was very nice, the fiberglass work looked very good. The sub fit right in and was pretty simple plug-in since the terminal and wires were ready in the box. Unbolted the seat, slid the box right in there, and it was ready for the amp wiring. I got to say it was pretty tight though, moving the seat back and forth needs a strong arm. I will try losnening the bolts a little to see if that helps.
With the side airbag sensors I made sure I did not unplug the connector from under the seat, because I know at least in my friends Audi, the srs light triggers and needs to be reset by the dealer. Not sure about your experiences with that Rick.
I got the Arc 10D4 Sub, and a simple 200.2 watt amp. I have sub control with my cd deck so that helped with the tuning.
The sub sounds and performs beautifully. My friend was pretty impressed with it, and he is quite the sound critic. It sounded just as good as the 12" 900watt in his trunk but without the rattle.
Definitely worth the wait and the $. Thanks Rick!
raamaudio 07-05-2005, 12:39 PM Thanks guys, appreciate the reviews:)
The pads for the seat sliders are to hold down the enclosure so the seat can slide more freely. They go under the seat rails in the front and rear ends of the side extensions of the box, wings or pontoon looking parts. If you unbolt the front and outboard rear seat bolts and just rotate the seat back a bit you can slip some under all four of the places mentioned above and then lower the seat onto them. I inclueded as many as I did so you can tailor the number needed to the exact fit of your car. You should have to really push down hard to get the seat bolts reinstalled when you have enough spacers in place. They will push the seat tighgly against the floor of the car and give a bit more clearance for the seat to slide forward and back.
This is a bit of a pain to do but everything was so close fitting it was about the only option I could come up with to gain some more clearance. Unfortunately I was unable to get pictures of installing these but will once I have another car I available when we move that should be much easier.
I realize a couple of units shipped out without the pads, if anybody did not get them just let me know and I will mail some asap.
Rick
raamaudio 07-05-2005, 12:52 PM The airbag cable can be unplugged without an srs light if you do the following first.
-disconnect the negative side of the battery
-if you have a capacitor for the audio system discharge it, easiest way is to short the positive side to ground through a 12 volt bulb, when the bulb lights up, you are discharging, when it goes back out, you are discharged. I pull the fuse and do it from under the hood, you should have a fuse protecting your audio system wire there.
-wait a couple of minutes minimum for the srs capacitor to discharge itself.
-now you are safe to unplug any airbag connector in the car.
-install the sub then reconnect the airbag.
-reconnect the negitive batter terminal.
-recharge your stereo cap by using the same method except go to the +12 volt side of the battery and the audio system side of the fuse holder. The bulb will light up while charging, it will go out when the cap is fully charged, reconnect the audio system fuse and you are good to go.
I have done this so many times I cannot remember them all and never had an airbag issue yet:)

AcquaCow 07-05-2005, 02:52 PM Ahh, so we could have stacked those spacers...
We just spaced them out evenly on the rails with just 1 layer.
DOH!
We can re-do that easily though.
Did the one that you sent Jard already have the sub mounted in it, or did the sub come in a separate box?
Thanks,
-- Dave
raamaudio 07-05-2005, 03:55 PM Yes, just stack them towards the end of the side pods, one or two should do it, then align the box carefully while sliding the seat back and forth to check clearances, this is a very very tight fit, best we could do with the limited amount of space we had to work with:)
Yes, all units except one were shipped with the sub installed, plug and play is all it takes to be up and running, except getting it under the seat;)
I am trying to get an install guide done, I need a clone, training my son and the box builder but that is taking alot of time as well.

highdensity 07-05-2005, 06:18 PM every time i read threads about this it makes me glower with jealousy knowing that a solution for MY02-03 isn't going to be available in the forseeable future.
i know, i know, one o these days....
purduealum91 07-05-2005, 07:21 PM Will this fit into a Saab 9-2X?
raamaudio 07-05-2005, 08:57 PM Hmmm, great question, if the car has the same seats then it should fit just fine, if different seats it would have to be test fitted to be sure.
Highintensity, sorry buddy, wish we could do something for you, not even sure the 8" version would work. If we could come up with a reliable, very high quality, shallow mount, reasonable cost subwoofer maybe we could make it work out with a 10" sub. I will keep this on a back burner for now, there is a possiblility of a ported 8" version I am looking into but no time line for now.
Rick
brackac 07-06-2005, 08:46 PM I also am interested in knowing if it fits the Saab 9-2x. I am about to spend $800 this weekend having a sub installed into my spare tire well. I would prefer to have it under the passenger seat. If a 9-2x owner is available, would you be able to test fit the enclosure in the car? Also, with Illusion Audio back in business have you looked at using the Nd10 or Nd12?

REVNU 07-13-2005, 05:55 PM Will an IDQ10 V.2 fit in this box? Thanks!
BryanH 07-13-2005, 06:21 PM I am about to spend $800 this weekend having a sub installed into my spare tire well.
Sweet jesus! I will make you one for a quarter of that.
raamaudio 07-13-2005, 07:04 PM IDQ 10 will probably fit but I do not have one here to test it to be sure.
I have looked into all the super short subs but none have enough output for most of todays enthusiasts:(

BryanH 07-13-2005, 07:26 PM illusion audio is not what is used to be....
