What must of happened was that you were looking at your revs while down shifting.http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

I guess the vehicle speed sensor went nuts for a split second and came back normal. I've never seen anything like that. Maybe you were dreaming?

Is the speedo electrical? If so, it might have had the insulation stripped off and shorted against another wire or the chassis... That's the only thing I can think of.

The same thing happened to me this morning.
I was comming out of my alley and the speedo jumped, I don't know how far becouse I barely noticed it.
It jumped just for a second. It's funny that you mentioned it.

what may have happened is that something allowed the wheel that the sensor is on to spin... a slick spot or something? in the case of coming out of the alley maybe it was in teh air for a second? liek when you're braking over a rough surface, the tires sometimes lift off the road just long enough to lock up and trip the ABS... just a guess. or you're crazy http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

that's happened to me before on more than one occasion. It also happens with the rpm meter. My car has done it a number of times, so I just let it be...

If this happenes to anyone take you car in and get the alternator checked out. This happened to my 97 GT. I was crusing around 3500 rpm and the tach jumped around and check enging, oil and I think another light came on. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the alternator under warranty. I think it is a "fail only" recall or something.
I don't think it is dangerous to leave it in but if you are still under warranty I don't see why you wouldn't.

Nah, just kidding but now you can tell all your friends you get from 5 to 40mph in .235 secs. They will all be amazed.
