What would you most want to see? (being realistic here)

I'm for a six speed. I thought about choosing weight but I can't fault the WRX for what I have a problem with myself.

Dood, you left out 17" rims STANDARD!!!

You forgot the number one requirement that all strive for.........More Horsepower! :D

i think they should have a new body style for every year

samowrx
08-08-2001, 04:43 AM
my preference was the sunroof but that would decrease the stiffness of the body so i chose the 6 speed

17" rims standard or more HP aren't gonna happen... ok more HP will come around eventually (they always manage to bump up HP and/or torque after a couple MYs). I guess there's no way any of the new Imprezas could lose weight--but damn, how did they get so heavy?

I want mor HP, better handling, better tires, better brakes...basically more of everything
oh and of course 10-15k less...Is that too much to ask for?

Anything that you add will make the car more expensive. It's a performance bargain already. I don't think that it needs anything, really. It's already an excellent car, especially for the money.

Having said that, a six-speed would make the car quicker, just because Subaru could change the gear ratios to make the current five-speed gears less tall. That tallness is really cool I think, but if you're auto-xing the car, the gears are a bit tall. On the highway, the tall gears are a goodness, however. Third gear is truly amazing in its flexibility.

I was going to choose six speed, but that only improves one aspect of the car. If you reduce weight, everything improves some what. Better handling, speed, fuel consumption..

a no brainer .. the six speed....

all the other stuff can be fixed relitivily cheeply .. but a $12,000 tranny is not an option...

I'm definitely a fan of 6spd transmissions...

But yeah the 17"s available from the factory in both Europe and Japan would be nice as standard here... they look DOPE! And could *EASILY* be added to at least the options list here in the US

How about FOLD DOWN REAR SEATS IN THE SEDAN!
And before all the advice floods in, I DON'T WANT A WAGON!

My preferences, in order: Coupe Body #1 (won't happen) 6 speed (maybe) sunroof (who knows?) Folding rear seat (why not?) Maybe rework the lights front and rear. I love my 2000 and just can't do the new one as is. Maybe someday? Is anybody at Subaru listening to us?

donjuan
08-08-2001, 04:18 PM
I'm with SLIG, "coupe" body. If there's no coupe I can't be disappointed that there's no six-speed cause I won't own one. And you're right it won't happen...2 door automobiles are dying, much to my dismay. Too many breeders.

6 speeds, fold down rear seats, sunroof, doors wont lock with keys in car, daytime running lights as an OPTION

erikgj
08-08-2001, 04:22 PM
The six-speed because it is supposed to be stronger.

But I would like better tires standard. Why hobble the WRX with such crap tires. Not proxies or anything high buck but some good performance OEM tires like pilot sports or XGTs. Just something better than the phenolic spacers they are trying to pass for tires that they have now.

Lower cost 17" option.

I don't know why everyone wants a six speed.

They make 99% of people SLOWER. And they are more of a pain for everyday driving.

I understand if you want strength I guess, but my vote would be for either a stronger 5 speed or auto adjusting windsheild wipers.

Hey GT guy,
Why would it cost more to put 17's and better tires on cost so much more?

Would it have costed subaru so much more to make MORE of the "euro" 17" that they already make? No, they had to make a whole new 16" wheel just for us.

If you look at the price of the RE-92's they are $123. For that much you could have some pretty nice tires! Not all season tires, something like the RE-010's (or what ever the ITR gets). I bet subaru gets a big discount on RE-92's cause they buy so many of them. They are a decent tire but they still should not be on the WRX.

All of the other new cars (MP3, SER) get 17" wheels.

I'm not trying to start a flame war with you but subaru should have put 17's standard.

The WRX allready has 17in standard rims. Don't you guys get the 17in :(

Rear wiper!! A little something in the form of a nudge* nudge* wink* wink* 276 hp. oil squrter's flame thrower's rocket launcher's and of course machine gun's standard. It could be called the Detroit edition!:D

08-09-2001, 09:49 AM
The 17" wheels would be a great upgrade, and probably around the same price for Subaru as the 16".

Sunroof would be cool, I have one now and it flexes though.

Leather is too slippery for my driving.

The 6-sp would be cool but a stronger 5 sp would be better for me and my rush hour driving. :)

I voted for less weight

Also boost & oil temp/pressure gauges as standard would be nice,
or at least reasonably priced gauge options.

Definitely the six speed. It would make the gearing tighter, and maybe let you cruise on the hightway more efficiently.

I was gonna say weight, but if you want to save 200lbs, you can strip out the car's backseat, paneling, etc, and just run a half tank of gas.:p

I must say, I LOVE sunroofs, but am ever so thankful I didn't have one when I flipped my WRX 2 weeks ago. The srtuctural rigidity is awesome in this car. Not having a sunroof probably saved me from some serious injuries or even death.
As for the leather, that too I used to love. Until I got the WRX. I love the feel of sticking to the seats in tight corners... something leather just doesnt do. it might be cool if they did a combo of leather and sued like the IS300's.
I too, voted for less weight. It improves on everything.
The 6-speed would be cool & the 17" wheels are easy to add.

Well, since I'm wishing...

A coupe version, with or without a hatch (preferrably with.)

A true performance should have complete gages standard. However, at least improve the optional gage pack. It looks cheap.

At least give buyers the option of choosing all season tires or more performance oriented rubber as standard. Even if remaining on 16" wheels. I prefer 16" wheels anyway. In my area, the poor roads lead to bent rims when running larger wheels.

I'll probably get attacked for this but here goes. I'd be willing to sacrifice some maximum (peak) horsepower in order to gain more low end torque, or in order to allow the existing torque peak to occur at lower RPM's. Actually, I'd really like a turbo 2.5, but that won't happen either. Might be the old geezer in me talking here, since I grew up with those big honking muscle car V-8's!

A six speed sounds good at first, but an improved 5-speed would be just as appreciated. Personally, 5 speeds is fine for me. And, even though I prefer the manual, a manu-matic option would be nice.

The option of leather, heated seats and sunroof for those who'd like them.

Don't let the price get out of hand. That's the real trick here anyway. The great thing about the WRX, and any Subaru for that matter, is the value for the dollar they give.

I want some of the things the wagon has, but I don't
want a wagon.
Fold down rear seats
Roof Rails and the ski attachment.
The cargo box for the trunk.

I also want better paint.

Boosted WRX
08-09-2001, 04:44 PM
I think everyon is forgeting one very important thing. Upgraded paint. I know it would be a weird option, but Subaru paint plain sucks. I would go pay for like a 500 dollar paint upgrade if it was an option. !7 inch wheels would be nice. A 6speed or beefed up 5-speed would be great also.

everyone voting for 200lb weight loss is bound to be disappointed! :D

I voted other-- put a stinking front LSD in it. it needs it badly.

I chose "other" because there was no option for Better Brakes and Wheels----At least the Subaru 4 pots with Euro 17s as standard equipment, with a little higher price for the car to compensate. The 6 speed is a dream--would be way too expensive. Either bring in a real STI with the 6-speed, motor, suspension, Brembos and/or or just give us better brakes and tires on the WRX .

Lurker
08-09-2001, 06:45 PM
A front LSD would be good, but the different tires is a real no-brainer. The WRX is supposed to be Subaru's highest performing model, and RE-92's are just a sin. How about some RE-730's?

Factory 17's should be easy, too. And the upgraded brakes should be doable.

For all that, though, I voted for the impossible one: 200 lb. weight reduction.

How about a facelift so I can
ACTUALLY BUY the car.

The poll will not allow you to make multiple choices, in which case I'd pick "all of the above." But here's what I'd like to see and I think is feasible for FHI

1. Transmission options - 6-speed standard in STi, optional in "base" WRX. Tiptronic-style automatic should be the only automatic available in the "base" WRX. Maybe someday a sequential style gearbox as appears in the new BMW M3.

2. Fold down rear seats in all Impreza sedans.

3. 17" JDM alloys standard.

4. Four-pot brakes standard. Brembos standard on STi, optional on "base" WRX.

5. Front LSD standard on all WRXes.

6. Special editions: Do a run of 450 special color models each year (gunmetal blue-gray, Pepto-Bismol pink, etc.) for the ebay crowd. Maybe a rally-related model like the RB5. Most of all, offer a lightened "club sport" edition like the RA or the many Porsche Club Sport editions. This would be lightened by removing sound insulation, carpeting, upholstered door panels, maybe the a/c as well. Go to manual windows and stick a rally roof vent on top to compensate for removing the a/c.

That's it for now - I'll probably think of more later.

TIPTRONIC AND LEATHER mmmm that would be sweet, or maybe a 5 speed steptronic like the AT BMW

rhung
08-10-2001, 05:44 PM
Out of all of them, I chose the weight reduction though I could think of other things that would be better. A 6 speed tranny would be fun but this has the potential for making the gears thinner and more fragile or adds more weight. The TT 6 speed tranny has synchro problems and the Miata 6 speed is fine for stock but has problems with forced induction apps. With the current WRX's questionable transmission strength, would a 6 speed really be the best option?

Just my 2 cents

i want a sunroof
6speed
STi JDM style wtih all the buttons and gadgets and whatnot

and i want a lower price tag =P

I'd be tickled to see the complete STi version make it to the US of A. But the 6-spd would suffice!

-Shorter wait times for a vehicle. (Although I really don't care now that I got one:))
-Heated Seats
-Better tires. What good is the performance if you lose control?
-More cupholders!

how bout a center console that can actaully hold all 6 of the cd cases for the discs in the changer?

a switch to disable the DRL?

floor mats that stay put up front?

no third brake light on rear deck if you get the wing?

auto-up driver window?

dome light delay that lasts just a coupla seconds longer?

better tires is the only "major" improvement I would wish for without incurring significant additional cost; overall, I still love my car, tho!

I agree with just about everything that's been said here. Assuming that Subaru will be bringing over the WRX-Sti in a year or so to satisfy the "hardcore" out there, and in trying to keep the base WRX's bottom line from getting too high, here are my suggestions:

Upgraded "standard" features

• 17" wheels from Japan (and virtually every other market!!).

• Full-size spare.

• Map pockets on the back of the front seats.

• More color choices.

• (This will never happen, but I can still wish...) Wagons share the same wider track/blistered fenders as sedans.

• Rear cup holders.

• Front center armrest.

• Fold-down rear center armrest on wagon.

• Rear wiper on sedan.

Upgraded "optional" features

• 6-speed—perhaps priced the same as the automatic??

• Automatic with tip-tronic—but with 5 speeds, not 4 speeds.

• Moonroof.

• HID headlamps.

• All-Weather package (heated seats, heated mirrors, and heated windshield).
