View Full Version : I'm going to Australia. JC 08-08-2001, 09:58 PM Any Subaru places I should try and hit? JC DuBYARX 08-08-2001, 10:00 PM I'm going with you:D I wish:lol: JC 08-08-2001, 10:07 PM :p Adrian128 08-08-2001, 10:13 PM Yeah.. go to MRT.. force open the rollerdoor.. go upstairs and get all the STI goodies in the cabinets and the STI strut bars on the wall.. then move towards the back glass display case and get he BOVs and the IHI turbos.. :D :D.. the rest of the stock is in the back room.. :D well.. you did say "hit".. alexs001 08-08-2001, 10:39 PM Get me video footage of the water going backwards. :D Go to the Zoo of Australia, see if you can meet Steve. Croikee! Adrian128 08-08-2001, 10:47 PM  shakes head  It is spelled "krikey"!! ..sheesh... fair dinkum mate.. adhowe70 08-08-2001, 11:18 PM Went ot the Australia Zoo... No Steve. You'll have to take a bath to see the water swirl backwards, the dunnies are different down there. And all the blokes talk funny. Where are you going in Australia? Sydney? Where else? I hit Queensland last Aussie summer. It rocked. I drove a RHD WRX, and that rocked, too! Except most of the controls were backwards. Most, not all. Adrian, how many times did I push in the clutch and try to roll down the window? :D Too many. Andrew H. PS - If you figure out the point of Cricket, please share it with the rest of us. That will be one mystery solved. Penphoe 08-08-2001, 11:22 PM Definetly check out MRT's shop. I took the public train/bus out there from Sydney - boy, what an adventure. But I made it out there, hung out at their shop for a bit and drooled over all of the toys they have there. LaterZ! Darren!! elemental 08-08-2001, 11:34 PM go talk to aus_scooby, bring back something! anything! PS: just a joke JC 08-09-2001, 03:08 AM Flying into Sydney, then probably drive up to Cannes (sp?), I'm not sure, playing it by ear. Where is MRT? JC evilblen 08-09-2001, 03:53 AM When you heading over there? I should be heading back home (Brisbane) within a couple of weeks... --Andrew rsquire 08-09-2001, 03:58 AM Where is MRT? They are in Ryde in Sydney.. Not that far from my house in Castle Hill actually :D wrxwannabe 08-09-2001, 08:43 AM Man... I wanna go back. Though WA was my stomping grounds, up around Port Hedland and Karatha. Oh yeah Perth was pretty awesome as well. What I got to drive had 20,000 Horse power and was over 1.5 Kilometers long though. didn't quite have the pick-up of a REX though. Later Mate P.S. Go get Pissed! mbiker97 08-09-2001, 09:27 AM My buddy just got back from Aus. He had a great time. He just did the standard tourist stuff in Sydney. Soory about not having specifics. :) Seth Martin Ritchie 08-09-2001, 09:38 AM JC, it's Cairns and have you checked how far it is from Sydney? It will take you several days to make that drive. adhowe70, the point to cricket is quite simple. One team bats and the other bowls. The team that bats is in until they are All Out (except for one who is Not Out). Then the team that was in goes out on the field and the team that was out goes in until they are All Out. They do this twice and it takes 3-5 days to complete a match. Well they break for tea. Hope that clears things up for you. JC, If you drive through Brisbane stop at the Paddington Pub. BigElm 08-09-2001, 01:15 PM JC: Keep me posted...I'm going to Aussie nxt yr...can't wait!!! I got some insight from a couple of members here who live or been there...:) Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy, Happy, Happy, Joy....:D Hondaslayer 08-09-2001, 01:42 PM Dammnit JC you better bring me back something ( Picture's, Brochure from a suby dealership(STI), Panda bear ( or are they koala's)) adhowe70 08-09-2001, 11:15 PM Martin, I said the point of Cricket, not how its played. I figured out how its played (it took me a few days) but I haven't yet figured out why its played. Fill me in, please. Cairns is an insane drive from Sydney. It was too far for me to want to trek from Brisbane. I didn't even make Rockhampton. Sydney to Cairns is like LA to Seattle. Its a long way. Fly. My advice is to pick a state (province, whatever) and try to see all that you can. If you rule out 90 percent of the country up front, you won't be as disappointed when you don't get to see everything. Andrew H. SubaruLover 08-09-2001, 11:52 PM sorry to bum a ride off you thread but i have the same question only i am goin to London . . . anything good there? JC 08-10-2001, 12:05 AM Well, me and my mom lived on a farm outside of Perth when I was a little kid, but it's a bit hazy for me. :p It might be an insane drive to Cairns, but I have an insane family, so we'll see what happens. I'll try and grab something for ya Ben. I'm only 18 and going with my parents, I don't know if I'll be going to any pubs. ;) We leave on Mon. JC P.S. Maybe I should crash rsquire's place. :) adhowe70 08-10-2001, 01:25 AM Is rsquire at his place? Or is he at one of his other places? Actually, it might be better to crash at his place if he's not there. Better selection of rides. :D rsquire 08-10-2001, 05:33 AM Now Now Young Fellas.. If you don't behave yourselves I'll set my 21 yr old Blonde haired daughter on you ... And let me tell ya That is NOT a fate you would wish on ya worsted enemy ;) Scooby South 08-10-2001, 07:08 AM If you go to Queensland....Look up Mick Jones...He is the President of the WRX club in Queensland.....have fun....Oh..if you can afford it....get your suspension stuff there.....I got the Whiteline 22mm front bar, 20-24mm Rear Bar, Front End links, Anti-lift kit and a bunch of hats and shirts at the Scooby Dealer...I paid right around $400 US for all that... I would also reccomend you email the WRX president of Sydney....and let him know of your arrival....He will be able to hook you up with the Club prices on everything not to mention a possible track day of tuning feature on your behalf....Be prepared to see some "SIC" Scooby's with alot of Front mounts....Search for the Australia WRX Club and find the guys email...thats what I did...and I Loved it...also you go to any internet cafe' and log on to I-club...:D:D:D:D:D Have fun...the women are BEAUTIFUL...:D:D:D:D:D Martin Ritchie 08-10-2001, 09:51 AM adhowe70, There's a point to cricket?? trev555 08-10-2001, 12:53 PM Here's some links for ya: WRX club of Queensland: http://www.wrxclubqld.org.au/ WRX club of NSW: http://www.wrx.org.au WRX club of Victoria: http://www.wrx.com.au/ Australian Rallying: http://www.rally.com.au MRT Performance products: http://www.mrtrally.com.au/ ---------- Okay, there is a point to cricket, it's actually quite compelling once you understand all the intricacies, but I can understand how it looks to outsiders, and it can get boring. I guess it's kinda like baseball played at the speed of golf. It's all relative. I'm used to Australian rules football and Rugby, so NFL looks dull. :) JC 08-10-2001, 04:31 PM Mmmmm, blonde and her dad has a 22B? Where do I sign up? :D I'm not sure if my parents would like a whole day of Subaru action. :p JC adhowe70 08-10-2001, 08:39 PM JC - Try this... I sent my wife to the Opera with my mother. While they were out, I enjoyed an evening of WRX action with Adrian. Its a great way to go. You just have to convice the family that they need to go to a show at the Opera House and you aren't interested. Oh, and I can hear it now... Gee, Mr. Squire, your daughter is beautiful. Do you mind if I take her out to dinner in your 22B Impreza?   At least Richard would know his daughter is safe. The Impreza enthusiasts are more interested in the car. :p Andrew H. JC 08-10-2001, 09:50 PM His daughter would be safe from me, not my driving. "So where do you want to eat?" "Huh? What? You still here? Hold on, this turn looks fun." ;) My mom said I can goto MRT and pick up some goodies. :D I'll work from there. It's nice that she's a former car person (two Camaros, a Z, and an RX7). JC Adrian128 08-10-2001, 10:07 PM JC How long will you be in town? If you're here on a Sunday night I'll take you to the street drags.. about 100 cars (average) crusing everywhere.. it's fun fun fun.. :D adhowe70 08-10-2001, 11:27 PM Adrian - Like you need street drags! You don't need an excuse to drive the car fast. You just do it. So, you racing or watching? Andrew Adrian128 08-10-2001, 11:36 PM Andrew.. I'll be racing.. last Sunday I raced side by side with a Skyline GTS-T and an MR2 GT turbo on a 3 lane freeway.. we got up to 225 km/h.. it was very close..and fun too.. the WRX still had a bit more in store.. at 220 km/h in 5th it was only revving at under 6000 rpm..1000 more to go.. JC 08-11-2001, 02:59 AM I won't be in Sydney on a saturday unfortunately. I should be there the 22nd. JC Hondaslayer 08-11-2001, 03:09 AM Well have fun JC.:D You gonna be back in MI soon? If so I will have my graphic's on soon. Don't drink the water ( or is that Cancun?) JC 08-11-2001, 03:39 AM I'll be back the 31st. I dunno when I'll make it up to Gratiot again though. I'm trying to hook up with that girl that was riding shottie with me that one night. Gotta focus on one thing at a time. ;) JC marty 08-11-2001, 04:37 AM go to beerwah on the sunshine coast, and go to the australia zoo! if you see either steve or terri irwin, tell them gidday mates!!! and if you can do this while driving an aussie WRX,that's even better!!!oh and by the way,TAKE PICTURES!!!!!! wether it's car or the irwins!!! subyroo 08-11-2001, 09:25 AM G'day JC & Company, If ya gonna drive from Sydney to Cairns matey, you had better add another week to your vacation 'cause ya gotta get back to Brisbane don't ya?? Sydney to Brisbane is 1 days non - stop driving (Ok! stop & fill up the tank then) Brisbane to Townsville (my hometown/City) is 16 hrs non - stop driving. Townsville to Cairns is another 4 hrs on top of that further up the coast - North from me. Cairns to Brisbane 20 hrs non - stop driving. You had better like drivin' matey, 'cause if ya gonna do it, ya gonna be stuffed at both ends Cairns & Brisbane when ya get back there and then fly back to USA, you'll need a month "off" to get over it. As suggested - pick a home base in one of the States (pref. Queensland - perfect one day, even better the next at this time of the year) and work around the area touring from there. Family and I did West coast USA last year in July (4 weeks), we landed in LA - shuttle flight to SFO and then hired a Ford Windstar (luved it to drive) and drove up the coast to Grant's Pass and then onto Oregon - Seattle (Boeing Field Whoaaa! F#$&*^g huge) - Vancouver - Kamloops -Jasper - John Day - Spokane - and down to Las Vegas (3 nights at Bally's - bloody great mate!!) - LA for a week and home - absolutely stuffed for the next 3 weeks, BUT, I want to come back some time and do the East Coast up to Canada. go go go 08-11-2001, 09:36 AM Go test drive B4! someone posted that B4 came out there. subyroo 08-11-2001, 09:48 AM Yes! we have the B$ here Downunder $53,000 AUD odd, which is around $27,175 ASD odd. Yep1 take one for a test spin. GO! GO! GO! Gomez.........:D  JC 08-11-2001, 06:10 PM Well we are going to fly to Cairns and then drive back to Sydney. What's so great about Brisbane? Don't goto the East Coast, it sucks. :p I'll see about the B4 test drive... JC Hondaslayer 08-12-2001, 03:14 AM What do you mean the east coast suck's? There's D.C, N.Y.C, Detroit,....... O.K I'll just shuddup now. Maybe I'll come out to A2 and visit ya. If you can't make it to gratiot. OsakaGangsta 08-12-2001, 04:15 AM Going to Australia, huh? Cool, I want to go someday. I have a friend in Melbourne who swears on his life that it is the coolest place on earth. Anyway, I'm surprised none of the people getting screwed by "Mark" aka aus_scooby have chimed in here. They need someone in Sydney to get some answers out of this guy before he flees the country with nearly 50,000USD, from what I've read in their on-going saga in Private Classifieds. If you're actually able to meet this "Mark", it could prove to give him some credibility. But that wouldn't be a very fun vacation, now would it? -Dan rsquire 08-12-2001, 04:21 AM Well we are going to fly to Cairns and then drive back to Sydney. What's so great about Brisbane? Gawd help us but the Sceptics have NO idea just how big Australia is ???/ ;) Errrmmm People it's only 70Sq k smaller than the USA.. Oh and you have 280 Million people and Aussie has less than 19 Million ;) subyroo 08-12-2001, 10:24 AM Flying into Cairns eh JC, well if ya spot an Aussie up there give me a yell eh!. There aren't many up there now that the J$@#%&*@# have found the place (no offence meant to any race or creed in this post - just my sic humuor). Do you know why there are only 19 million in Aust compared to the USA. Because they (Americans) are mother - f***ers, well so they tell us!! lol:  :lol Just about every time they curse you, they come out with that phrase, BUT, the real truth of the matter is Aussie's are 1.4736842 times better than Americans (280 million / 19million) Ok! Ok! Ok! Ok! Ok! Ok! I hear ya's it was only a BLOODY joke!! Let it go pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!:D :D  WRXRob 08-12-2001, 12:32 PM Originally posted by subyroo BUT, the real truth of the matter is Aussie's are 1.4736842 times better than Americans (280 million / 19million) Is this Australian math? :D subyroo 08-12-2001, 01:01 PM Accordin' to ma little calkalater it is   MontyBurns 08-12-2001, 03:18 PM Originally posted by Martin Ritchie JC, it's Cairns and have you checked how far it is from Sydney? It will take you several days to make that drive. A couple years ago I went to Sydney, Brisbane & Cairns. My original intention was to fly into Sydney & drive to Cairns, seeing everything in between & fly hone from there. Then someone asked if I was nuts! My being nuts notwithstanding, I decided I would fly from Sydney to Brisbane to cut down the length of the journey to Cairns. Then I began researching & mapping that drive and I found out that there aren't many roads up to Cairns and they may or not be paved and/or passable at any given time. Especially since they make you sign all kinds of papers when you rent a car stating that you will NOT take it off road. Needless to say, I decided to fly from Brisbane to Cairns instead of drive. Cairns is great. Worth the out-of-the-wayness of it all. Make sure to go see the reef. Port Douglas has some nice beaches (watch for the killer jellyfish in the summer though!). Cairns will be hot. It feels like a tropical island locale & you'll see why when you go there. When I went there I was able to buy what was called a "Kangaroo Pass" from Qantas. It was basically a flight coupon that you could only buy here in the US and it was good for one flight anywhere in Austrailia, no reservations required. Just show up at the Sydney airport, hand them the coupon and as long as there's room on the flight (and there usually is) you're good to go. Flights within OZ are expensive if you buy them in country, so these passes saved me some real $$'s. All in all OZ is a great place to go even considering the painfully long and expensive flight. I can't wait to go back again! Have a blast! subyroo 08-13-2001, 02:46 AM MontyBurns - we are not as backward out as the McCoy clan :D we do have sealed roads and YES!, the roads to Cairns are limited in as much as, that if you want to go A to B then there is the Bruce Highway Brisbane to Cairns and all stops in between. But if you have the time and money you can go via several inland roads and see the interior (Red Centre) of Oz (Australia). The Great Barrier Reef is must see if you come this far to see Australia. Above all JC - ENJOY YOURSELF AND THE AUSSIE FRIENDSHIP & HUMOUR (don't take everything said to you to heart - it is a compliment to be ridiculed out here, unless it is accompanied by the 4 letter words F*** - F*****g or F****d).  Peter JC 08-13-2001, 05:42 AM Alright, thanks for all the advice, helpful and not-so helpful. haha Um, we know how far Cairns is. We've driven to Alaska twice, Michigan four times, and to the east coast once. That's only the really long trips. Trust me, long drives aren't a problem. Oh and my mom says not to listen to British people because they are whiners. haha Yes we are going to the reef. Oh, we are using that Kangaroo pass thing too. I'm sure I'll have a great time. Thanks again guys, I'll post pics when I get back. Thanks again guys, I'll post pics when I get back. JC By the way, when you're in Cairns and you're looking for a way to see the reef, I can recommend a company called Quicksilver. Its an all day thing and its a bit more expensive than some of the other tour companies but its worth it (I think it was like US$100-$110 at the time). We had a great time and I would definately use them again. Also note that even if the weather is crappy in Cairns it may well be ok out at the reef (which is like 3 hours away by catamaran) as it was for us. We almost didn't go because of the weather and it would have been a huge mistake because when we got to the reef the weather was perfect! (Although the ride out there was VERY rough and probably 30-40% of the people got sick because they didn't take anything, so bring your Bonine and you'll be ok.) Have fun! subyroo 08-13-2001, 11:57 PM If you do go to the Reef and do some snorkelling - just make sure they don't leave you behind. rsquire 08-14-2001, 03:58 AM If you do go to the Reef and do some snorkelling - just make sure they don't leave you behind. Nah They only do that to Americans ;) JC 08-24-2001, 05:37 PM Alright, well I'm waiting for the Scooby to get back from the Mechanic, so I scanned a few pics. I'm too tired to write anything coherent about my trip right now though.
