Mine blinked 5 times then stopped and held and became the normal non-blinking CE light. WEll I made it home safely... but my quietion is can I drive it to the dealer tomorrow or have it towed?

You should call the dealer and ask them what to do.

1 - gas cap on correctly?

that's the first thing you should check...

2 - spark plug wires connected properly?

3 - take it to the dealer and have them run the code...
they'll tell you immediately what it is...

i drove for 3 weeks w/my ce light on cuz i was too busy to go to the dealer... if the car is not sputtering and is driving ok, then you will be fine... no need to tow....

I just got back from a new owner subbie orientation at the local dealership.

They said it is very bad to drive on a blinking CE light-- that is what the service manager told us.

He said it initially blinks and then the light stays solid. However, if it stays blinking, he said do not drive anymore, and call the dealership immediately.

He told us driving on a blinking CE light could be detramental to the car.

We learned lotsa useless tidbits at this orientation, but there was free food and it was ok, though they ran out of the free subaru buckets of stuff when they got to me :(

However, I talked to the manager and ended up getting my spoiler for free since they have made me wait way too long and were really bad about getting in touch and updating me on stuff.


So blinking CE light is bad.

I think the blinking CE light is just to confirm that you own an Impreza. Have you driven a Honda or VW lately? Because your scooby can smell that on you and will often respond with a CE light.

This is what the WRX Owner's Manual says about the Check Engine Light, beginning on page 3-10:

If the CHECK ENGINE light comes on while you are driving, have your vehicle checked/repaired by your SUBARU dealer as soon as possible. Continued vehicle operation without having the emission control system checked and repaired as necessary could cause serious damage, which may not be covered by your vehicle’s warranty.

If this light comes on steadily or blinks while the engine is running, it may indicate that there is a problem or potential problem somewhere in the emission control system.

If the light is blinking while driving, an engine misfire condition has been detected which may damage the emission control system.

To prevent serious damage to the emission control system, you should do the following: Reduce vehicle speed. Avoid hard acceleration. Avoid steep uphill grades.
