Mine blinked 5 times then stopped and held and became the normal non-blinking CE light. WEll I made it home safely... but my quietion is can I drive it to the dealer tomorrow or have it towed?

You should call the dealer and ask them what to do.

1 - gas cap on correctly?

that's the first thing you should check...

2 - spark plug wires connected properly?

3 - take it to the dealer and have them run the code...
they'll tell you immediately what it is...

i drove for 3 weeks w/my ce light on cuz i was too busy to go to the dealer... if the car is not sputtering and is driving ok, then you will be fine... no need to tow....

good luck

I just got back from a new owner subbie orientation at the local dealership.

They said it is very bad to drive on a blinking CE light-- that is what the service manager told us.

He said it initially blinks and then the light stays solid. However, if it stays blinking, he said do not drive anymore, and call the dealership immediately.

He told us driving on a blinking CE light could be detramental to the car.

We learned lotsa useless tidbits at this orientation, but there was free food and it was ok, though they ran out of the free subaru buckets of stuff when they got to me :(

However, I talked to the manager and ended up getting my spoiler for free since they have made me wait way too long and were really bad about getting in touch and updating me on stuff.

So blinking CE light is bad.

I think the blinking CE light is just to confirm that you own an Impreza. Have you driven a Honda or VW lately? Because your scooby can smell that on you and will often respond with a CE light.

This is what the WRX Owner's Manual says about the Check Engine Light, beginning on page 3-10:
◊ CHECK ENGINE warning light/Malfunction indicator lamp

CAUTION !
If the CHECK ENGINE light comes on while you are driving, have your vehicle checked/repaired by your SUBARU dealer as soon as possible. Continued vehicle operation without having the emission control system checked and repaired as necessary could cause serious damage, which may not be covered by your vehicle’s warranty.

If this light comes on steadily or blinks while the engine is running, it may indicate that there is a problem or potential problem somewhere in the emission control system.

º If the light is blinking:

If the light is blinking while driving, an engine misfire condition has been detected which may damage the emission control system.

To prevent serious damage to the emission control system, you should do the following: Reduce vehicle speed. Avoid hard acceleration. Avoid steep uphill grades. Reduce the amount of cargo, if possible. Stop towing a trailer as soon as possible. The CHECK ENGINE warning light may stop blinking and come on steadily after several driving trips. You should have your vehicle checked by an authorized SUBARU dealer immediately.According to another thread ("Help me!! My car is near death" (http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79123)), this is how myko011 has reacted in the past to Check Engine light illumination:Ok... so I am flooring it in 4th gear.... my check engine light pops on at about 90 mph-100 mph. As I hit the gas pedal... my car does not go... it makes this humming noise... as if it hit a fuel shutoff or something... I keep driving it hard for throughout the night because this was the 3rd time it had happened. Before when if I just let it cool down... it ran fine. But tonight, everytime I pass 4500 rpm.... it is not boosting all the way like before. Instead it feels like I lost 100 hp and oh yeah...!! I will made some clunkety noise underneath the car. I am afraid to bring it to the dealer because I have modified the stock BOV to vent to the atmosphere. It appears that myko011 has uncovered yet another way (besides mods) to void the warranty: ignoring the CEL.

After reading all these other threads, now we know what's going on. Please read this recent thread in the factory-induction forum about venting the stock BOV to the atmosphere:

And all I have to say is - Put the car back together and bring it to the dealer!
