I just bought a set of used JDM projector lights for my 02 rs. They are genuine subaru bug-eye style headlights. I'm pretty sure they came off an earlier model STI (02, 03?). However they didn't come with headlamp bulbs. If any one has these lights, what is the headlamp bulb number?

i want to say H7 but i don't know. i'll search and see if i can find anything that you couldn't.

it's H1 for the HID's, but if they're not HID then i don't know yet.

H1 for halogen JDMs. HIDs are D2S.
Before you put them on your car you should open them up and modify the beam pattern so they don't blind oncoming drivers.

Mulder is right, I was looking at the lights last night and It does say H1. The second question is because they are JDM they have different a different wiring scheme than my original bug-eyes. Do I wire them directly into my car car and bypass the harnesses or what?
(does anybody know how to post pics in these threads, there are a bunch of Suby owners on this forum who have these exact lights and if I could put a pic up, it would make everything so much easier. I feel like such a dumbass)

By the way, never ever, ever, ever, ever buy those stupid wrc replica lights on ebay. I had a set and they are such a waste of money. That's why I bought these.

Ok, I just got them rigged up. Here's a tech question. When I turn on the low beams,, the projector and the hb3 light up, (the light above the projector) but when I turn to high beams, only the hb3 lights up and not the projector. Is this supposed to happen?

Yes. How did you wire them up? I think I'll be having sum issues too

I have the same lights . They look sweet but are a pain in the #$@ to wire. Mine still dont work right!! Low beams work but everything drops out when I go into high beam. Hit the fog light switch and the high beam pilot comes on. I think I might have a bad hi/lo relay or even switch. I cant find any info. My 02 wrx wont even pass inspection cause of this trash!!!. LIVE AND LEARN I GUESS!!!

the 2 relays in the glove box (black and blue) next 2 the white daytime running lights relay are these the hi/lo relays does anyone know?

You should not have to mess with anything inside the car to get your lights to work. Here is the wiring info for the factory lights, follow this to connect your JDM's-

The Subaru headlight system is common positive, switched ground. The wiring of the headlight connectors in the car is as follows-
Driver side- common positive = red/light blue (center terminal on connector)
low beam switched ground = yellow/red
high beam switched ground = red

Passenger side- common positive = light blue/white
low beam switched ground = yellow/red
high beam switched ground = red
