From the 2002 Impreza Owner's manual:
shift up
1st to 2nd 15mph
2nd to 3rd 25mph
3rd to 4th 40mph
4th to 5th 45mph

"The following table shows the maximum speeds that are possible with each gear.

Never exceed the speed limit below for each gear position except for brief accelleration in an emergency."

OK.
Boy the turbo just sings @ 45mph in 5th, ooh the excitement..
wuuu whuuu..!

Why on earth is such a charade of a statement in the book necessary?

I guess I need some emergency situations to enjoy my rex..:

1. WRC coverage on speedvision starts in 20 min and I am 28 mi away...

2. The Aquamarine Prelude beside us with a muffler the size of a small state, is making threatening gestures and I fear for our well being..(this actually happened..scary)

3. We awoke to news of no coffee in the house..

4. Freinds finally agreed on where to eat and said "see ya there".

Certainly ONE of the above constitutes an emergency..
Although more are needed.

*disclaimer* *I just had to rant*

I think I remember reading those numbers, but it said to shift then for maximum fuel efficiency, not that those were the max for each gear.

but it's been awhile since i looked...

Hey Gordon, you forgot one.
5. Wife goes into labor, and you live no where near a hospital.

Hey Flatfour, you eejit. When the manual says "The following table shows the maximum speeds that are possible with each gear," you're supposed to look at the table that FOLLOWS that statement. Try turning the page and you'll see this:

I believe "eejit" is Irish slang that actually means "idiot". Anyone else hear of this before?
