I just installed my stromung type xa catback exhaust however, i have one problem. i have a major leak at the flanges between the cat and the mid pipe. Are there any products which can seal this gap, or should i take down the midpipe and try to scrape off more of the old gasket, or any other things? Please let me know, I need to have this ready for sunday's autocross.

can you disassemble the pipes and grind the old gasket completely off or does that do horrible things to the pipe?

im no expert..but if you have left-over gasket then yah...its prob not going to seal.

Scrape all of the old gasket off. If you have access to a die grinder with a roloc disc on it or wire wheel it should do the trick. If not keep scraping or maybe sandpaper. Also use a new gasket as well.

i'm getting there. I should be done and ready to go tomorrow afternoon. We'll see if it gets rid of the leak.

What do you guys mean scrape the old gasket away? The stock gasket on that pipe is a donut gasket. You can just pull it off and there will be nothing left behind.

From the looks of this picture, you might need a new/bigger OD donut gasket. If Stromung doesn't have one you can buy, you can try to put some gasket maker over the donut gasket you have and see if that helps.

Subaru P/N 44022AA062 might work too. It worked for my modified WRX midpipe.

the old gasket doesn't exactly peel off. it sort of scrapes off in small, dry pieces. they deteriorate and stick very well to the flanges. There's also a lot of carbon buildup on the flanges.
