I am completely happy with the sound out of it. but honestly when I am next to a really sweet sounding WRX or STi or even an RS my car gets drounded out I want more deeper louder sound. I orriginnaly wanted the Apexi N1 system but I was told it was only for the 2.5L engine Is it possible to put it on my 2.2L? If so does anyone have any Pics on 2.2L L's, reveiws on it, or sounds clips. I only want sound clips from those with the 2.2L engine but anyone can please give me a review. thanks.

Please keep that Borla system you have. Personally, I think the N1 just looks silly poking out of the pre-GD chasis bodies.

You'll continue to sound quieter next to a WRX or STI. Just how it works. The 2.2 liter isn't that loud. If you wanna be louder, you could always get rid of your cats, or go with a high-flow cat. If your Borla has a resonator in it, you can get a muffler shop to build a custom pipe and remove the resonator to be a bit louder.

I don't think an N1 would be that loud on your car...it's pretty quiet on mine with the Borla header.

Hmmm thanks all keep it coming. The big thing to me is that my exhuast looks too stock for me. I do plan on getting the stromung high flow cat and the borla headers. but there is this 00 2.5 RS that goes to my school (ITT in Mount Prospect IL) and it has the N1 and it sounds so much better then mine.

I think the N1 just looks too damn big for my taste. I'm now starting to like the stromung and borla exhaust since it looks like the stock exhaust, but doesnt sound like it. I'm not sure the N1 would give me the attention that I would want. but if thats your cup of tea, it looks like you could pull it off.

You might also wanna look at magnaflow stuff. You can get a GREAT custom exhaust made for cheap, and it can be quite loud. Check out their stuff. Otherwise, I'd just suggest borla or stromung, or even possibly a prodrive axleback or many other alxeback sections.

+1 magnaflow

But sounds like you don't need a new muffler/exhaust system. The best thing to do if you just dont wanna get drounded out next to a WRX/STi is get a Y-pipe installed. You can just run open headers next to the WRX/STi and make him feel drounded out, but then you can also close it and be quiet.

Not sure if I would give him the same advice. Unlike in turbocharged cars where a Y-pipe can reduce backpressure and increase the flow velocity of the exhaust, resulting in greater HP/TQ, N/A cars need some backpressure to scavenge exhaust pulses correctly and make additional power. I wouldn't recommend running a Y-pipe on a 2.5 RS. Although I'm sure it would sound great, you would most likely lose power going to a Y-pipe system-- only when it's on the bypass setting, of course. Still, why buy an exhaust part specifically for making the car louder that doesn't increase any performance?

IMO, he would be better off going for a set of Borla headers. I love the sound and performance gains of mine, and they also make a set for the 2.2 L. I'm not sure of any equal-length header options for the 2.2, but he may want to look into that as well.

I would keep the Borla exhaust. It looks good and is fairly stealth.

^^ yea thats true when i was making my exhaust system i was driving around town with no catback, exhaust was comin straight out the catpipe and it sounded LOUD n nice but after i put the catback on i noticed that it felt much more responsive n slightly quicker than the open catpipe.

A y pipe huh and where can I get such a thing installed and how much? Honestly I know this may sound odd but I would love it if I could get my car to sound like the WRC Car But I dont know how they get it to sound like that.

haha i bet they have like a no cat headerback. Mechanical Y-pipe can be purchased from Performancecenter.com or an electronic Y-pipe can be purchase from QTP. basically a Y-pipe on an N/A car will only make it sound LOUD n mean

actually the Y-pipes are universal fit to any car. you just need to get it to fit the 2.5inch pipe you have and take it to a muffler shop so they can weld it in.

You can change the sound of your car but unless it's turbocharged, it can't sound like the WRX cars. The exhaust pulses are chopped up by the turbine and make a unique sound. My last 280zx turbo had straight pipe with no cats all the way back and finished with a small glasspack. I really miss the sound of it. :( I'm hoping when I get the 2.5 swapped and my 1.8 out, to have a little better note.

THats true for other cars that aren't boxer motor or subaru's. Cause my car has that same pulsing sound to it, which is the Boxer Rumble that produces a burble. The thing that is different between the non-turbo to Turbo is that the turbo has ALOT more burble, but either way they both have that pulsing rumble.
