View Full Version : Just Ordered WRX, Quick Questions
I ordered my WRX on July 31st. Everytime I call the dealership to ask if they've received ANY information on it, they say they haven't. The only thing they've said is that the factory has confirmed the order.
My questions are:
Did anyone get any information before the car was shipped?
What kind of info does the factory give the dealership? VIN #, etc?
Did anyone go through the frustration of not knowing anything during the entire wait?
ALRIGHT, Should I stop worrying about everything and just start buying aftermarket stuff? :)
PLEASE HELP!

I ordered mine last week, will be here at the end of the month.
I didnt ask dealership for nothing, just to call me when it comes :D
So yeah, just start buying aftermarket stuff now!, I am!.. hehe.
Im getting the Blue Sedan.
How about you?
Mambo Kid 08-12-2001, 08:13 AM When I was shopping a few weeks ago, all of the dealers (3) I could get the car within a matter of days. If they don't have the exact one the buyer wants, they can get it from another dealer. They keep a database of what's available at all of the dealerships, at least in New England. Come to think of it, I've never had to wait more than a couple of days to get any car I've bought.
PunksWRX 08-12-2001, 08:23 AM I would quit worrying and start buying parts. When I ordered my (first allocation) WRX in January all the information the dealer had was the VON (vehicle order number) which he received from Subaru about 3 to 4 weeks after I placed the order.
I'm surprised you weren't able to get the car pretty quickly by a dealer locate and trade rather than ordering it. WRX's seem to have become pretty plentiful lately. Just last week I counted about 8 cars on his lot all available for sale. In the Denver Post one dealer had an ad indicating 24 WRX's in stock and available for immediate delivery.
I would imagine you can get a real good deal on the car now too.

Some people, like me, would prefer to wait the four to eight weeks it takes to get a NEW car, rather than buying a flogged demo car. The only exception I have made was with my last car, a Taurus, because it had 3 miles on it, and had arrived only a few days earlier.
Some don't think it's that big a deal if there car has 50-150 miles of hard test driving on it, I do. Unless you totally disount the need for a proper break in period, anyone that has ever read of the test/joy rides that some of the members of this forum have taken, should never buy one off the lot.
Oh, by the way, one of the dealer transfers my dealer was able to locate was a demo car from the pheonix fly and ride WRX introduction. I bet that was treated gently.
Austin 08-12-2001, 03:12 PM You'll never have any problems with one of those demo cars... Trust me! I'm also selling some magic medicinal snake oil, want some?
Does anyone think that Subaru puts the whole break in thing in their manuals just for the fun of it? I guess it is a scheme to try and get you to baby your car and than build some kind of maternal attachment to it. Now I understand.
Kezzie 08-12-2001, 09:16 PM Just call SOA and find out about your order. The dealerships suck and won't know anything if they are a low volume dealer. That's my experience with my local dealer.
PunksWRX 08-12-2001, 09:22 PM The WRX's in stock at my local dealership are not flogged. They have a couple of cars (wagon and sedan) that are used as demos and all of the others are on their back lot untouched and with 5-20 miles on them. Just because a WRX is not ordered doesn't mean it's been used and abused. Some dealers are good about this.

T-Rex_Dino 08-12-2001, 10:08 PM When I bought mine, the dealer told me it would take 10-15 days and that all he had was the VON.
The next day, he called me and told me that my Rex was in Vancouver and would be trucked to the dealer within a week. It took 16 days from that day.
I kept calling the dealer for the VIN in order to advise my insurance broker. The dealer explained to me that until the car is released to the dealer, they don't get the VIN (is that true? Who knows). However, the minute the car was released, the dealer called me with the VIN. They also told me that Subaru works in the fashion. I don't know if SOC is different from SOA but I wouldn't worry about it.
My understanding is this.
A dealer places an order with SOA. They then have an allocation system that matches up cars that are coming over from Japan, with dealers orders. It could be that there is one sitting at the port, that matches your specs, or it may be on the next boat, but as soon as cars come arrive at the port, they are matched with dealer orders. The options such as armrest, stereo upgrade and alarm system are installed at the port. I have heard different stories as to whether the port installs the spoilers, or they come from Japan with spoilers on, but the website says the port installs them.
Once a car is matched with a dealer order, they notify the dealer of the approximate arrival date, and along with that notification they send the VIN number.
