Is this true? I asked this months ago and people said no. The BL/BP suspension != BE/BH. Has anyone tested them out on a BE?
Could I be the guinea pig? :D (seriously)
flanders 07-28-2005, 02:48 PM +1
I have never heard that the BL/BP suspension is backward compatible.

PDXTuning 07-28-2005, 08:28 PM Ok, apparently the legacy coilovers that came in are still 6k/6k i thought they changed the spring rates.
Who said they are not compatible? I just installed some lowering springs on a GT a few days ago and the whole rear suspension is the same, the front looks the same as well. Now, that is not a 100% confirmation, however they look the same and another reliable source told me they are the same as well.
iamrazor-sure you can be guinea pig, just pay us 1400 and we'll ship you a set;) If they dont fit then send them back.
Maybe i'll just put them on my BE and show you all:D
thanks

iamrazor 07-28-2005, 08:39 PM If I had $1400 it'd be in the mail.
how about lining up the two stock struts (BE vs. BL) and taking some measurements / photos?
I see the wheelbase is about the same, but what about the weight? Does the 05 use the same multi-link rear suspension that the BE does?
PDXTuning 07-28-2005, 08:44 PM yea the multi link rear is identical, the weight on the BE is a bit heavier, maybe 200lbs, so 50lbs a corner.
I will take some measurements, basically i think the real thing i need to check is the top hat measurements and bolt spacing otherwise its the same, but i will check some other things also when I have one in my hand.

MitchGT 07-28-2005, 08:59 PM def. subscribing to this one :)
I want pics of them on a BE. I may just have to....spring...for a set of these :p

fibuz 07-28-2005, 09:20 PM I want pics of a paintball_babe on a BE. I may just have to...uh, nevermind.
fibuz
iamrazor 07-28-2005, 09:59 PM I was hoping the BE would be lighter.
then we could use BL/BP stocker takeoffs (get 'em for cheap).
I've got 90k on my car. I'm sure even new stockers would make it handle better..
does the GT get the same susp as the i?

BE is the Porky Pig of Legacy's. :(

subysouth 07-29-2005, 10:05 AM Its an interesting question. The topmounts between the BL/BP and BE/BH JDM Bilstein setups are quite a bit different. However thats with a given oem setup and doesnt mean the bolt spacing is different.

Teh Legacy 07-29-2005, 10:41 AM sooo.....
will they fit?
Fibuz - I'll see what I can do :p

PDXTuning 07-29-2005, 01:29 PM Hey guys/gals, sorry i was at the shop till late last night so didnt get time to take any when I got home. I will try when I get back later today.
Subysouth-do you have any more specific info on the difference in tophat and what problem that might cause?

PDXTuning
Its more of a problem specific to the Bilstein mounts. There are several threads on the topic on LegacyGT.com. I was a participant in a couple, you could search under my name there.
Like I said though, it may not affect bolt spacing or use of fully adjustable coilovers at all. The adjustability of coilovers makes them viable if they will bolt up. That spring rate is high enough for the BE/BH's ponderous bulk :p I would think.
ss
PDXTuning 07-29-2005, 08:53 PM Yea, the spring rates should be sufficient, there is a 7k/7k set also available if desired.

Seriously...I'll see what I can do about that picture
PDXTuning 07-31-2005, 03:36 AM Alright sorry about the delay, I took some measurements tonight and some pics. The rear suspension is identical except for one piece, but that part does not relate to if the suspension fits or not. I took measurements of the top hats the best I could. The three surrounding bolts seem to be on a 3" radius from the center of the strut to the center of the bolt. from bolt to bolt they are 5.25" center to center.
If someone could measure on their BE that would be greatly appreciated, unfortunatley I cant measure mine since it is back home in another state.
thanks
Ben

PDXTuning 08-01-2005, 03:05 PM I have been told these will fit 100%, and that is my opinion as well, but if anyone would like to totally confirm with some measurements, that would be great;)
thanks

iamrazor 08-01-2005, 03:10 PM can you take a picture of what you need measured?
fronts?
rears?
tops?
bottoms?
oh, post those pics too.
PHATsuby 08-02-2005, 12:49 AM here you go, i just need the measurements like i have shown here, here is a pic of the rear so you can see they are the same. Sorry they are so big, but i like detail;)

iamrazor 08-02-2005, 07:33 AM um, where is your exhaust coming from? did you make duals or something?
PDXTuning 08-02-2005, 12:34 PM Hello....that is a 05 Legacy GT;) Subaru made dual exhaust for the new ones.
Ben
iamrazor 08-02-2005, 12:36 PM PHATSuby = PDXTuning?
iamrazor 08-02-2005, 12:38 PM I dont have a set of calipers on hand. maybe i could borrow a set from someone here.
or, I could use teh razor method and eyeball it... :D
PDXTuning 08-02-2005, 12:44 PM PHATSuby = PDXTuning?
Shhhhh.....it's a secret:lol: Yea, I am now working for PDXTuning.
yea, just eyeball it, just use your two fingers then guess what it is, haha. Just kidding, a caliper would be the best.
Ben
iamrazor 08-02-2005, 12:52 PM i thought that was you. I didnt think the new exhaust you built for the H6 was a dually.
I'll measure them when i get home. any chance your TEIN's will be taken off the car since you can get such a good deal on these... ;)
PHATsuby 08-02-2005, 01:53 PM iamrazor-PM'd you.
Ben
Teh Legacy 08-02-2005, 02:36 PM Any update to whether or not these will fit on the BE? I'm holding off on about $750 worth of mods for this answer! :)
PDXTuning 08-02-2005, 06:07 PM As you can see we are waiting on people to measure so if someone wanted to take the initiative to measure a BE*cough*97legacygt*cough* then I can tell you for sure, the manufacturer says yes, and I say yes but I would like someone to measure still.
thanks
Ben
Teh Legacy 08-02-2005, 07:12 PM I have no measuring tool, or I would.
*cough* omahasubaru *cough* ;)
iamrazor 08-02-2005, 08:42 PM with a tape measure:
bolt to bolt is like 4 3/4"
i have a large rubber/plastic cover on top so i cant see the exact center to meansure. I dontthink they are the same
Ben, you have a BE. check yours.
PHATsuby 08-02-2005, 09:01 PM hmm, yea 4 3/4" is not even close, see this is why I wanted to measure, guess i'll have to edit my post;). did you measure the same bolt length that i did? like between the same two, they look all the same but it was a quick measurement, if it is the same ones i did then i think you are correct they are not the same.
Ben
Teh Legacy 08-02-2005, 09:04 PM So, they won't fit :(
[baby stewie]BLAST!![/baby stewie]
PHATsuby 08-02-2005, 09:04 PM Also, I cant check mine, I am out of the state PDX=portland;) otherwise you know i would have already, haha.
Ben
iamrazor 08-02-2005, 09:08 PM maybe i can borrow a set of calipers tomorrow at work. though i have this rubber/plastic cover over the top of the middle bolt. does that pop right off? I have stock struts/springs.
Teh Legacy 08-02-2005, 09:25 PM It does pop right off. I'm REALLY hoping these fit. You have no idea how expensive parts straight from Japan are.
iamrazor 08-02-2005, 10:17 PM You have no idea how expensive parts straight from Japan are.
actually, I do.
Teh Legacy 08-02-2005, 10:22 PM So you feel my pain. ;)
MitchGT 08-02-2005, 10:30 PM LOL, I am so damn confused about PDX being PHATsuby or not

Ben
PDXTuning 08-03-2005, 12:03 AM So, If it is just the top hats that are different(which i believe is the case) I was told that we could have GPMoto probably just design a different front tophat to work with the BE/BH's:)
who wants a set.
Ben(possibly known as PHATsuby, but maybe not)
Teh Legacy 08-03-2005, 06:23 AM Meeeeee!!!!! How much are they again?
iamrazor 08-03-2005, 07:29 AM $1400 / set
too rich for my blood (unless i can convince my wife we dont need siding on the house...)
didn't you just get iON springs?
Teh Legacy 08-03-2005, 07:40 AM Whoa, I thought I saw $850 / set somewhere
Yes, I did just get iON springs, but i was under the assumption that these were less than a grand...looks like I'll be sticking with the springs and shocks.
iamrazor 08-03-2005, 07:47 AM iamrazor-sure you can be guinea pig, just pay us 1400 and we'll ship you a set;) If they dont fit then send them back.
Maybe i'll just put them on my BE and show you all:D

ten80 09-25-2006, 09:41 AM So, If it is just the top hats that are different(which i believe is the case) I was told that we could have GPMoto probably just design a different front tophat to work with the BE/BH's:)
)
was browsing and came upon this thread and it gave me an idea:
couldn't the rear top hats just be switched and PRESTO, you have a shock that fits? Subaru doesn't often change the strut/top hat interface, so it just might work if the spring has the correct diameter.
rougeben83 09-25-2006, 11:01 AM rear tophats would have to be done by GPMoto as it is specific to their coilover (typically this is the case). I'm not sure of the front fitment as the suspension design is different in the front for BE's and BL's as well, but at the most, the tophat issue remains the same.
Regardless, there are a couple of coilovers made specifically for BE's, that are readily available stateside now.
Buddy Clubs and Teins are going for about this price on ebay, Ksports are going for about $500 cheaper.
PHATsuby 09-25-2006, 02:05 PM the rears are the same the fronts are diff.
Regardless it doesnt matter cause GPMoto no longer makes these coilovers.
Ben
ten80 09-25-2006, 02:47 PM oh, right. In my early-morning daze, I didn't notice that the pictures were of front strut tops. I wonder if they changed the spring diameter with the larger tops?
