Is this true? I asked this months ago and people said no. The BL/BP suspension != BE/BH. Has anyone tested them out on a BE?

Could I be the guinea pig? :D (seriously)

+1

I have never heard that the BL/BP suspension is backward compatible.

Ok, apparently the legacy coilovers that came in are still 6k/6k i thought they changed the spring rates.

Who said they are not compatible? I just installed some lowering springs on a GT a few days ago and the whole rear suspension is the same, the front looks the same as well. Now, that is not a 100% confirmation, however they look the same and another reliable source told me they are the same as well.

iamrazor-sure you can be guinea pig, just pay us 1400 and we'll ship you a set;) If they dont fit then send them back.

Maybe i'll just put them on my BE and show you all:D

thanks

If I had $1400 it'd be in the mail.
how about lining up the two stock struts (BE vs. BL) and taking some measurements / photos?

I see the wheelbase is about the same, but what about the weight? Does the 05 use the same multi-link rear suspension that the BE does?

PDXTuning
07-28-2005, 08:44 PM
yea the multi link rear is identical, the weight on the BE is a bit heavier, maybe 200lbs, so 50lbs a corner.

I will take some measurements, basically i think the real thing i need to check is the top hat measurements and bolt spacing otherwise its the same, but i will check some other things also when I have one in my hand.

I was hoping the BE would be lighter.
then we could use BL/BP stocker takeoffs (get 'em for cheap).
I've got 90k on my car. I'm sure even new stockers would make it handle better..

does the GT get the same susp as the i?

Its an interesting question. The topmounts between the BL/BP and BE/BH JDM Bilstein setups are quite a bit different. However thats with a given oem setup and doesnt mean the bolt spacing is different.

Hey guys/gals, sorry i was at the shop till late last night so didnt get time to take any when I got home. I will try when I get back later today.

Subysouth-do you have any more specific info on the difference in tophat and what problem that might cause?

Its more of a problem specific to the Bilstein mounts. There are several threads on the topic on LegacyGT.com. I was a participant in a couple, you could search under my name there.

Like I said though, it may not affect bolt spacing or use of fully adjustable coilovers at all. The adjustability of coilovers makes them viable if they will bolt up. That spring rate is high enough for the BE/BH's ponderous bulk :p I would think.

Yea, the spring rates should be sufficient, there is a 7k/7k set also available if desired.

Alright sorry about the delay, I took some measurements tonight and some pics. The rear suspension is identical except for one piece, but that part does not relate to if the suspension fits or not. I took measurements of the top hats the best I could. The three surrounding bolts seem to be on a 3" radius from the center of the strut to the center of the bolt. from bolt to bolt they are 5.25" center to center.

If someone could measure on their BE that would be greatly appreciated, unfortunatley I cant measure mine since it is back home in another state.

thanks

bolt to bolt is like 4 3/4"
i have a large rubber/plastic cover on top so i cant see the exact center to meansure. I dontthink they are the same

Ben, you have a BE. check yours.

PHATsuby
08-02-2005, 09:01 PM
hmm, yea 4 3/4" is not even close, see this is why I wanted to measure, guess i'll have to edit my post;). did you measure the same bolt length that i did? like between the same two, they look all the same but it was a quick measurement, if it is the same ones i did then i think you are correct they are not the same.

)

was browsing and came upon this thread and it gave me an idea:
couldn't the rear top hats just be switched and PRESTO, you have a shock that fits? Subaru doesn't often change the strut/top hat interface, so it just might work if the spring has the correct diameter.

rougeben83
09-25-2006, 11:01 AM
rear tophats would have to be done by GPMoto as it is specific to their coilover (typically this is the case). I'm not sure of the front fitment as the suspension design is different in the front for BE's and BL's as well, but at the most, the tophat issue remains the same.

Regardless, there are a couple of coilovers made specifically for BE's, that are readily available stateside now.

Buddy Clubs and Teins are going for about this price on ebay, Ksports are going for about $500 cheaper.

PHATsuby
09-25-2006, 02:05 PM
the rears are the same the fronts are diff.

Regardless it doesnt matter cause GPMoto no longer makes these coilovers.

Ben

oh, right. In my early-morning daze, I didn't notice that the pictures were of front strut tops. I wonder if they changed the spring diameter with the larger tops?
