Ok, so I was in the market for a new car a few months back, and had pretty much decided on a 2005 Forester XT. I live in the Orlando FL area, and went around to the local dealers. Classic didn't have any in stock, and I won't go to Bill Bryan after some service I had done there. (somehow they destroyed my seat track, and I had to get a whole new one...how I'm not sure, but after they'd pulled my seat out I was driving, went to brake, and my seat lifted up came WAY loose) Anyway, So I went by Bob Dance.

I don't put up well with BS from car sales people. One thing that my parents did when I lived back home was that they took me on every single car buying experience, whether or not I wanted to go. So I had clocked a lot of hours watching both my mom and my dad play this game. Probably one of the things that I’m most thankful for. anyway, back on topic again.

I had been there a few times before asking about the car, comparing, talking to different people, etc... so I went in and wanted to go for a test drive. I was worried that I might have problems with the test drive because I'm only 21. But they didn't have a problem as long as the salesman came with me. (which I expected) He was clearly very new, and probably hadn't been there more than a week at most. I was asking him some questions about the car, some of which he didn't know, but said he'd find out for me. Up to here it's fine.

As SOON as we got back to the dealer an older salesman opened up the passenger door, before I'd even got out of the car, leans in, and asks the guy who was helping me "so is he going to buy?????????" the younger guy answered "no, I don't think so today" and then the older guy literally grabbed his arm and started pulling him. He was saying "Ok, come on over here. see those people, they're ready to buy a car, don't waste your time on him." :furious:

So I got out of the car and wandered into the showroom. I overheard another salesman saying something to the effect of "why isn't he buying, he's been here before." I went in and sat down flipping through a forester book. After about 15 min of just sitting there the sales manager wanders out and asks me if anyone has been helping me. I told him what had happened, and he tells me he is "very sorry" and starts to help me.

When I'd been looking at the sticker they had this thing next to the price. It was a $2000 addition to the price, and all it says is "FMA." This was my largest concern. I asked him about it, and he said it was "Fair Market Adjustment" because (get this, it's really funny) "The US dollar has devalued so much since the list price was put out that it's just there to keep the car at the same price relative to the global market." At this point I thanked him for his time and walked out, having to bite my lip to keep from erupting in laughter.

Two days later I purchased a new 2005 FXT from Reeves Subaru in Tampa for $1500 under invoice. Which isn't too bad for my first shot at buying a car on my own. A few days later I needed to get some parts for my old car (another Forester) to fix up a few things inside of it before I sold it. So I drove the new car into Bob Dance to order the parts, and the look on the sales peoples faces was hilarious.

I would recommend that no one purchase a car there, especially not until they quit tacking "Fair Market Adjustments" onto their cars!

Too bad you hadn't waited....classic now has more cars and has to get rid of them due to new owners taking over....

A friend of mine pre-ordered an '04 STI when they were first announced from Bob Dance and when they issued one of the very early TSB's on it, he took it back to them for service. He told me that when he went to pick the car up, it had KETCHUP all on top of the hood/hoodscoop and some of it had even gotten in the hoodscoop (this is no lie)! He immediately went to the service manager and told him, "Don't mean to be a PITA or anything, but what the ***** is all that ketchup doing on my car??". The service manager apoligized profusely and they took the car to clean it up. Then, when they gave the car back to him, he noticed that it had about 10-15 miles more than when he gave it to him (keep in mind, this is when the STI's just came out, so everyone wanted to play with it). He was so mad with the ketchup incident that he didn't tell them about the miles on the odometer.

Just a story I wanted to share about Bob Dance Subaru in Sanford/Orlando.
