Rear bars
RS: 13mm
WRX Wagon: 17mm
WRX Sedan: 19mm (IIRC)

They're all interchangable.

I have the WRX rear sway bar on my 02 RS and
it makes a big difference. I would be careful
when you consider other year swaps. When I got my bar I called several vendors and they said it was differnt. Ordered through
Subaruparts.com and Scott said they had differnt part number. Alot of people say they
are the same but why not get the right one?

That's funny, SCC wrote that Subaru said that although shocks & springs would transfer from the old car to the new one, swaybars wouldn't because of a new shape.

Well, the rear bars are definitely the same as one from the older model. Can't confirm that on the front bars. I went ahead and bought both front and rear bars from a WRX owner that upgraded. My rear end is crazy-tight now http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif Erm... the car's rear end, that is http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

how big of a deal is it to swap the sway bars out on a car? im mechanically inclined, so its not a big deal to do the work, but is it a simple swap, or am i taking off a buncha stuff to get to the bar? just curious!

Well, on my RS, the rear one was super-simple. 4 bolts out, remove old bar, put in new bar, replace bolts. The front one was only slightly more complicated, because I had to remove a little metal plate that was covering the center of the bar. I did both in about 40 minutes with just hand tools. One thing to remember is that you should NOT jack the car up. The weight of the car should be on the wheels. Ramps work great and make the job easier, but I don't think you actually need them.

It must be the ramps...
I ended up taking the lr rear tire off and taking the muffler off the bushings to get the rear swaybar in. It must be me I guess...

The wrx sedan bar and FHI bar are the same exact part.

on the wrx its simple to change the rear bar 7 minutes tops
the front however i took to a friends shop so he could lift the car and easily ise air tools. there are a coulple bolts that are hiding behind the sub-frame, which i didnt want to take off. so i let him do get in there with some bendy socket deals.

Hey Jamie wasn't that Poseidon's '02 RS we put your old bar on as a test?
And of course the WRX will have different part numbers... it's a bigger bar. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

Subie Gal
06-01-2001, 07:30 AM
yeah Nick (horatio) true... the wrx will be a diff size "mm" but the same style/shape bar as the chassis is the same...

no idea on the fronts guys...
you can do the testing for that on your own... hehehe...
