View Full Version : Holy crap, those are expensive spark plugs!

I have 02 WRX, 60,000 miles, no mods, and want to change the spark plugs. My dealership quoted me $75.00 for a set of 4 spark plugs (platinum). That sounds insane. Where do you folks buy plugs, and how much do you spend? Are they totally trying to rip me off?

Thanks

Josh

That's actually not bad if they install them too. If that's just for the plugs, it's a big rip off.

yeah, that was the price I was quoted for the plugs only (not including labor). I feel bad for the unsuspecting people who actually pay that rip off price. Like they always say, buyer be ware!!!

Thanks for the quick replies

Or you can spend about $1.98 for regular plugs and change them once a year or so.

You must like taking out all the surrounding crap out to get to the plugs once a year. I have to say... I love my car, but changing plugs is kind of a pain when you compare it with non-horizontally apposed engines.

I heard of this thing called The Spark Plug FAQ (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518633) and it had all this good information in it about spark plugs and spark plug part numbers, too, anywhere know where it is?

$250 for install. If you know how to turn a wrench I would do it yourself. 6-10 dollars for plugs. I got mine at Advance Autoparts for 7 bux, one step colder. Changing the plugs on our cars takes a while but you tend to smile more when it is done because you will have 200 more dollars in the pocket.

True, there is more stuff in the way, but it's really not that bad. Passenger side is just the intake funnel and airbox and the driver's side is pretty much just the washer fluid container.

+1 for sparkplugs.com. And do it yourself, you'll learn a lot. Good instructions over on scoobymods.com too.

Go to Advaced Auto or AutoZone and get what the factory recomends.

List price on your plugs is $14 and some change- they shouldn't charge more than $60 for a set of 4. I got a set of Iridiums straight from Japan for my v6 motor (by way of Rallispec) for only about $40.

I like the bosch 4 prong plugs for 5.99 each at advanced auto. I use them because since electricity will always take the path of least resistance, I figure give it four paths to chose from??

Those plugs suck in general. Just go with the OEM platinums or NGK copper plugs.

They had stock plugs on the shelf at the Autozone I went to.
