View Full Version : Bastard dinged my WRX. What to do?
cysco 08-13-2001, 04:06 AM When my girlfriend and I got back from the store yesterday I was walking up the drive and caught a mark on my passanger side door out of the corner of my eye. I asked my girlfriend who was getting out of the car "what the hell is that!?" She bends down and proceedes to investigate a 2 inch "ding" in my door.
It's bad enough that she didn't see it while getting into the car at the store (not sure how she couldn't have, the ding is huge) but she also licked her finger and rubbed the other car's paint off.
I asked my girlfriend if she remembered what type of car was parked next to us. She says it was a dark silver two-door car.
I jump back in my REX and speed back to the grocery store and find the spot I was parked in. Next to me is one of those silverish-green Mistubishi Eclipses. I just knew he was the bastard that hit my car. My friend has one of those new eclipses, and I know how incredibly heavy those doors are. I also investigated his door and the edge was scraped up. I could tell I wasn't the only person to fall victem to this guy.
After waiting a few minutes I figured he was in the restaraunt next to the grocery store. I went in, had the hostess ask around and found the dude who owned the car.
He claimed to have no idea what I was talking about, but I could tell he was nervous. He refused to give me his insurance info and claimed that the car was a rental. (I didn't see any rental badges on the car) Anyway, I got his license plate number.
So, what to do? I am 100% sure he was the one who violated my car. (although I have no idea how I'd prove it) The scuff mark where he hit me will probably buff out, but you can tell the door is dented if you catch the light off of it. Can I use his license plate number to get insurance info? I'm afraid I'm going to get stuck with the bill to have the dent removed and the door detailed.
Talk about anger...

You should have called the cops when he refused to admit it and give you insurance info. That way you would have had everything documented in a police report and getting insurance taken care of would be easy. Also the mere mention of police probably would have made him give in. Now I don't know what to tell you. You can't get any info from his plate. Only the police can get that and if you go to them now they can't really do anything because everything is said and done.
bbbradley 08-13-2001, 08:25 AM If you didn't actually see him ding your car you are probably SOL... It sucks, but if push comes to shove, and he sticks to his story, it is highly unlikely you will get any money out of it.

stumpz 08-13-2001, 09:36 AM honestly..not much you can do other than take it to Dent Wizard (http://www.dentwizard.com/) or some other similar place. I'm working on a dent protection system (Home Depot Version). I'll let you all know how it goes.

Martin Ritchie 08-13-2001, 09:43 AM Mate, dents are a part of life. You can try to park away from everyone else but eventually some hoggish huge pickup or SUV is gonna get you. I just had 2 dents removed by paintless dent removal $50 and got a new one (at the top of the fuel door!!) the very next day. Sorry, I know how you feel.
djerickd 08-13-2001, 09:54 AM I'd have him killed, but thats just me:D
Tinman 08-13-2001, 12:45 PM I recall using a little piece of spark plug in high school...

I remember that trick!!
cysco 08-13-2001, 01:43 PM Thanks for the replys guys. I agree that I'm probably SOL so killing him is probably my best option. How big of a corpse do you figure I can fit in my sedan trunk?

ShaneM 08-13-2001, 02:08 PM Go to your local Home Depot and purchase some 2-part epoxy (it comes in these 2 strips). Then epoxy his door locks shut. This may not work if he has keyless entry, so the only thing left ot do may be to wait until nightfall, and dump a large box of bisquick into his gas tank.
You didn't hear any of this from me... :D

Well, after personally trying the emergency trunk release handle; I know that at least a six foot man would fit.;)
Mazoku 08-13-2001, 02:14 PM I also got my 1st ding recently. Not a big one, but still... The idiot didn't know how to park, he had tons of room on the other side, but he parked extremely close to me anyways. I just gave his car a little kick by the door handle. I suppose that wasn't the right thing to do but oh well...
gugarci 08-13-2001, 03:23 PM Don't think there's really much you can do if you didn't see him. But you could of still called the cops and filed a report.
For revenge don't spend money just brake off some toothpicks in his locks.;)

2.0 guy 08-14-2001, 03:13 AM It sucks that this happened, but damaging someone elses car is only going to make you feel better for a little while... after that, the ding is still there...
( I often feel like I would mess up someone's car if they messed with mine -- the whole eye for an eye thing -- but with my luck, somoene would see that and I'd be in trouble for something while the other person gets away scott free... )
Its too bad you drove off, because if you had left the cars as they were, atleast you could kind of see where his door would have met up with yours. I know its sad, but I actually walk up to my car if someone is parked close and look to see if their door would line up with where a ding might be...
so far, ding free. I think most people are pretty careful, its just those few dolts to watch out for...
