View Full Version : Installed my Hyperflow Intake.....Nice...
Draven 08-13-2001, 10:28 AM After returning from vaction i discoverd my package from Hyperflow Intercoolers....i did a little dance .. (which apparently really turned off my girlfriend)....I instantly made the needed phone calls and notified my friends that my intake had arrived....with a severe lack of things to do in Alexandria ..oooggling my REX has become #1 priority for most of my friends...
All in all the process took 40 minutes....for a bunch of neanderthals thats pretty good...
We lowerd the car and all crossed our fingers that there would be no CEL concequences....i turned the key and wala!....no CEL...everyone quickly skurried for shotgun and i took off downt the driveway...
There was a noticable difference in performance and sound...that sketchy area between idle and boost feels more powerful, and once the turbo kicks in you can hear the very audible WHOOOSH...which was dubbed the "COOL" part by my friends who rode with their heads out the windows....later that night my girlfriend even noticed the sound saying..."uhhh somethings wrong with your car...its hissing or something"....after attempting to explain the inner workings or my car i realized she had fallen asleep.....
Pics to follow
All in all i couldnt be happier.....
Thanks Hyperflow.....
Tinman 08-13-2001, 12:42 PM Draven...keep us posted about the CEL after 50 miles or so. I know the one JC is putting out causes it.
Whats the cost, does it eliminate the silencer?
rak328 08-13-2001, 12:58 PM I installed my Hyperflow Intercoolers intake 550 miles ago and no cel yet. I am very satisfied with it and spool up is definately quicker now. It was $200 and it got rid of the silencer and you can hear the turbo loud and clear now.
Draven 08-13-2001, 01:36 PM Timman ..
I put it on saturday and we spent all day tooling around and sunday too....also my long ass drive to work...and no CEL....
and it does totally remove the silencer....its really nicely done piece..the welds are all very solid. The MAF screws right in, and the hole piece bolts to the body using exsisting holes left from the stock air box.
Im not to worried about CEL problems....i waited for the second batch to be made. I wanted to see if anyone got CEL first. If you do a search im sure youll find some other threads ... and NO CELs..
wigglesxjr 08-13-2001, 02:04 PM what sort of intake is the Hyperflow piece? Cold air? Short Ram? the price is definitely attractive, but i had more of the Blitz Short ram in mind.
please post pics regardless!

Saco1997 08-13-2001, 02:05 PM I put it in around 2,00 miles ago, I got one of the first ones, and it is great I since have added a BOV and the stock BOV venting into the intake couldn't even compare to the noise this bitch makes, But my REX is currently in the shop due to a careless BMW driver and I will be getting it back shortly. Until then, I am gonna have to live with driving the PT Cruiser. Oh well.

Yes, this is a CAI with a k&n filter. I don't have any pics of mine but if you do a search for hyperflow intercoolers in the vendor classifieds you find some.
Their website is htttp://www.hyperflow.com.au (http://www.hyperflow.com.au)
jclick 08-14-2001, 01:00 AM Anyone have a picture of this? The website has nothing.
Hyperflow 08-14-2001, 03:09 AM Have a look at Vendors classifieds now...I bumped it to the top...some pics are in there...

Fred C 08-14-2001, 03:51 AM Does anyone know how the Hyperflow intake compares (in terms of construction/dimensions and, possibly, performance) with the Injen intake? The price-points are very comparable, so these are the 2 I'm looking at right now...
Thanks! :)

Anybody?
Just checking to see if anyone can answer my questions... :)

ScoobyWRX 08-16-2001, 01:18 AM how does it compare to the Injen cold air intake?? Any Idea?

Draven 08-16-2001, 10:10 AM I never looked at the injen intake, so i cant tell you how they compare, accept i think the injen resides in the engine bay, where as the hyperflow bolts to the body of the car using holes from the OE intake. And the filter sits in the fender well.
Dont quote me on this ..... but im pretty sure im right....
mbiker97 08-16-2001, 10:22 AM The injen is a CAI also. The filter sits in the fender well and the MAF screw into the. It has a polished finish too. Nice piece. :) I don't know the performance difference though, and I think that no one has results from dynos with only the intake. Buy which ever one tickles you fancy.

OceanStateScooby 08-16-2001, 11:25 AM I'm planning on installing a CAI on my Rex wagon - either the Injen or Hyperflow.
Not having done much work on cars in the past, I purchased the full set of shop manuals for the WRX a couple weeks ago. They are so neat! It is so cool to see how everything on the car operates...
Anyway, on to my question - why didn't you do an ECU reset after installing your CAI?
I just assumed that was the thing to do so that it could adapt to the new availability/temperature of intake air.
Will the ECU learn about the CAI's characteristics without resetting?
I am b 08-16-2001, 11:41 AM I was just wondering with the units that sit in the fender well, how do they get protected from water or how about snow! I live in Reno, NV and go to tahoe all the time. I would think that snow could get lodged up inside the fender area and block the air flow to the intake. Any comments on that would be apreciated.
Draven 08-16-2001, 01:02 PM even if you slammed into a snow bank at 60 mph i dont think snow would be able to crawl up the fenderwell...
There isnt like a huge hole letting air flow freely in there, the week after i installed the intake it rain 5 days solid, standing water all over the place, not a problem. after a late night trip i even pulled the wheel off and got under there, not a drop of water.:D
rak328 08-16-2001, 01:44 PM It is almost impossible to get water in the intake since it is pretty much enclosed in the fender wall. IMO, cold air intakes on the wrx are a little more restrictive than intakes on other cars like Hondas because there isn't a direct flow of air into the filter. If it is not raining or you are at the track I would take off the foglight by the filter for better airflow which would make it a true CAI.
filobot_wrx 08-16-2001, 01:48 PM OceanStateScooby,
Where did you pick up the shop manuals? Dealer? Or is there a cheaper alternative.
thanks.
