View Full Version : Best wheel for Gstock 00 2.5RS
vintagemilano 08-01-2005, 12:17 AM Title pretty much says it all. Just got myself a 2000 2 door 2.5RS. Have a bunch of experience autocrossing Alfa Romeo's. The car comes with the original six spokes so I will need to get a set of winter wheels and a set of race wheels for autocrossing. Wondering what the hot set up is for a GS wheel, thought superleggera's might have been available but not in 16". Any thoughts?
Thanks,
mtnbkrcr 08-01-2005, 12:37 AM You should keep the stock wheels for racing. They are relatively light, 16.5lbs. You could find a lighter wheel but depends on how much you really want to spend. Where are you moving to? Edmonton, Calgary?
adhowe70 08-01-2005, 01:07 AM Factory 6-spokes are the way to go unless you want to spend a lot of money on a custom wheel. Basically, there's not much available that has the offsets we need to be stock legal.

quentinberg007 08-01-2005, 01:14 AM Aren't the 16"x7" rota slipstreams G stock legal? They are approx 13 lbs, IIRC. I'm running on the 99 RS wheels which are 16.5 lbs. The stock 01 wheels are 16 lbs, but I much prefer the look of the 99s. I doubt that .5 lb of rotational mass would hurt my times too much. ;)

adhowe70 08-01-2005, 01:29 AM They're legal if the offset is between 47mm and 59mm. :)
Warp3 08-01-2005, 01:40 AM The SSR Comps would be a good choice as they are available in 16x7. They aren't horribly cheap (like $350 or so each, IIRC), but they are semi-solid forged so they weigh in at like 10 lbs or so.
The cheapest method would be to keep the stock 6-spokes for autocross and get something else for the street (then you can get by with cheaper street wheels and not worry about weight or dimensions).

nate49509 08-01-2005, 01:59 AM OEM 98-01 RS wheels are the way to go. 16x7", and 16.5lbs.
adhowe70 08-01-2005, 02:04 AM I don't believe SSR Comps come in offsets that are legal for Stock category. And they are pricey.
solo-x 08-01-2005, 08:53 AM 16x7 is a +45 offset. make it legal with a spacer. SSR=teh hottness

Yes, the Rota Slipstreams are also a great option in 16 x 7.. and are fairly inexpensive.

Ahhh...didn't realize they were a low offset. Most of the wheels that TireRack lists for the Subarus (unlike other tire places like Discount tire  ) are no lower than +48mm.

Uhhh...wouldn't a spacer make the offset even lower.

omahasubaru 08-01-2005, 11:41 AM grey import 16x7" SSR's would be the ticket.
IIRC gr8wheels has a gold set with some ST115 falkens on them for a decent price they're trying to sell. Ahh... here is the link: http://www.gr8wheels.com/catalog/item/1574933/1460365.htm
Would be the best GS setup for the subaru on a budget IMHO. I think the 16x7's are 11.3 lbs -vs- the 11.5 for the 16x7.5"

I'll slap his forehead for you.
speedyHAM 08-01-2005, 12:20 PM What would be a good R-compound (type and size) for a 16" x 7" wheel for a '99 RS? I have looked around and there does not appear to be much available in 16" sizes. Please tell me I'm wrong and just overlooked something.
omahasubaru 08-01-2005, 12:30 PM 225/50-16 seems to be the most you can squeeze in the rear with minor to no rubbing.
IIRC the V710 (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=ECSTA+V710)'s come in that size. If not go Hoosier (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hoosier&tireModel=A3S05).
If you can squeeze it you may like a 245/45-16 front 225/50-16 rear setup. You'll have to go hoosier to get the 245's though. I know some have run this stagger with success.

Fort McMurray to Cranbrook..... We have friends in calgary so was thinking of heading there.

I thought SSR was bankrupt or nearing that with a buyout by someone. SSR's are nice wheels but no way am I spending that much to clearout TR's warehouse and no company to back up their product. I could be wrong though.
vintagemilano 08-02-2005, 07:49 PM I like how the gram lights 57s looks on TR. Should be able to find someone to shave .5mm of the face of the wheel. The rule is .25" which is actually 6.35mm.
Anyone hazard a guess how much the oem 6 spokes are from a dealer?
adhowe70 08-02-2005, 09:46 PM OEM 6 spokes will cost around $400 per wheel from a dealer here in the US. They're playing the insurance scam on that one... insurance will pay for OEM parts, regardless of cost.
