Does SOA allow shops other than dealers to perform warranty work? Not that I don't trust dealers (ha!), but there isn't one very close to my house, and convenience counts.

My guess is they will not allow that for 2 reasons. First is the possibility of fraud; second, they have to protect the business of their dealerships, who paid good money to get a franchise.

Having said that, if you live really far away from a dealer. [like if you live in Arkansas or Louisiana :) ], then they may give you an exception.

Hey rkkwan - I hear ya on the Arkansas. I just moved here from Alabama and there are no Subaru dealerships anywhere near Jonesboro that I have found. I have to go to Memphis or back to Alabama for any warranty work!

stickdavis - I hear your pain. And I'm not making fun of Arkansas either. I used to work for USA Truck out of Van Buren, and we have a terminal in W. Memphis. I know your state, and I-30 sukcs big time.

Not quite correct - you can actually get emergency repairs done by outside the dealer network and get reimbursed later by Subaru under the warranty.

There are criteria for the type of problem and how far you are from a dealer - check your warranty.

e.g. you're in Timbuktu and your accessory belt fails. You can get it repaired and then claim it back.
