Price: $75 Shipped
Quality: Overall, I give it a 8 - from what I understand the new ones being produced have cleaner welds and are polished. Mine wasn't ... who cares.

Installation: Installation was simple and easy, took about 40 minutes from beginning to end. Including a phone call to Chris at TRi to ask a question.

Test Drive: Wow, this baby is short. Much shorter than the Kartboy shifter in Jet's car. I'd say overall throw has been reduced by about 40%-50% with no exaggeration. Even with stock busings, side to side motion is nearly non-existant when the shifter is in gear.

1st gear and reverse require a slight bit more effort to get into gear, but my wife (who's still learning how to drive a 5 speed) can still get it into gear - and that's all I'm worried about). 1st to 2nd shifts are about 2.5" and it's quite notchy ... exactly how a sports car should be.

The shifter provides a posative feel when shifting, eliminates side to side motion while in gear - all while resting at the stock height.

Great product guys ... now I just need to get some bushings.

Does TRi tuning sell bushings for the shifter or are they still making them?

I still dont understand quite how the bushings work...

Sounds like I will have to get me one of these soon :).

thanks for the review,

TRi can get the STI bushings if I'm not mistaken .. PM Faraz or TRi Tuning.

The bushings stiffen up the pivot points in the shift linkage. The stock ones are very soft and allow unwanted horizontal movement of the shifter while shifting, which can cause missed shifts. With the combination of bushings and a short shifter, you will have no problems knowing when you're in and out of gear. It provides a solid feeling when you shift.

The main thing about TRi's shifter is it sits at Stock Height. Some people think that for it to be a short shifter it has to have a short shaft. Totally untrue. TRi's shifter gives a better feel when shifting fast. It sits higher so your hand dosn't have to search for the stick yet it's shifts are just as short as Kartboy's shifter. TRi's shifter is top for racing purposes IMO, and isn't that why you'd want a short shifter to begin with?
