No more missed shifts for me,
Car is a 00 Legacy GT, shifter is the one for the WRX:
Throw went from "Rowing a Boat" to "It's in already" (no jokes)
Shift effort is about 50% higher than stock, but throw is also reduced to 50% of stock.
Advantage:
1" throw from neutral to any gear
Positive feel of engagement
Disadvantage:
None
Installation took about 5 minutes. Pretty crafty, no grinding of the gasket plate, just a quick 180 and it fits.

You just rotated the plate and it fit? Good idea.

I have a Rev-lab short shifter in MY01 RS and I agree the shifts feel great. The first shift was 'WOW' I already there. Rev-lab was easy to deal with and the shifter looks great, to bad it is covered by the boot. I don't find it to have a notchy feel. Installation was short :D and easy.

So it's a silky shifter?
Personally I'd prefer a little notch to know that I'm in gear.
Hi All,
Regarding "Notchy Feeling", I can't really say. Consider this though, the linkages aren't changed, just the fulcrum modified.
Since the throw is (IMHO) shrotened by 50%, the effort goes up proportionally.
Bottom line is, if your car feels notchy with the stock shifter, the feel will be even more notchy with the short shifter. I wish I could explain it better.
Shifting from neutral to any gear is quite positive, there is resistance going into the gate, but when it gets over the gate there is no question that it is engaged.
Hope this comes across ok.
Thanks

I find it's very notchy if the car isn't moving, but give it some momentum (the car) and it's not so bad.

so what exactly do you mean by a "notchy" shift?
It's when you know that the shifter is in gear. There's a certain *ting* in the shift. On the contrary, a silky shifter is one where it is so smooth that you can hardly tell that you're in gear.
