I don't know why so many people dislike this. I think it looks great. I haven't noticed any low end loss. Maybe thats just me. pulls harder after 3k. All the parts came with it too:p .

I got the hyper intake ... lost some low end, but it makes up for it above 3500RPM's. I dunno why everyone bashes Weapon-R either.

From what I had heard the whole WeaponR thing was centered around the 99's and the fragile MAF sensor. Supposedly the weaponR intake was designed like any normal tube intake with a filter on the end but becuase of lack of substantial mounting points it would kill the MAF or at least cause the fabled lean run conditions at 5k+ RPM. The whole reason WeaponR got so much flak and dislike was that they seemed to have released a product without proper testing and that was potentially damaging to the vehicle. One would think that when designing (if you can call it that) an intake you would do some testing to check how the thing works. Maybe they did test it and didn't notice a problem, who knows? The scary thing is that alot of faith gets put into a company's parts and the level of R&D and testing varies greatly from place to place. At least this is how I have interpreted the situation from the collection of i-club posts. Since you guys both have '01, you were spared that greif and the intakes work.

Hi guys. I have to disagree with you. I have one on my 01 and I am very displeased with the product. My main problem is with the bracket the kit comes with and the filter. The bracket is a universal type strip of zinc that attatches to the hose clamp and then has a hole on the other end to fasten to whatever you want. I think this is such a cheap, cheesy thing to include in a kit that costs $200. I could easily make a custom bracket with no problem, but the point is that it should come with something that is specific to the car. Now about the filter. I don't know about hp numbers or filteration characteristics, but it is such a pain to keep clean. After 1 day it is already black. (I have a red one). Oiling it is even worse. I can take my time and just give it a light coat and it still drips off and makes a mess of my engine bay.

I'm also not impressed with the perfomance. At high speeds it does pull pretty hard, but our cars are designed for low end. This intake eliminates our advantage almost completely. Unless I got a faulty one, my car has no low end power anymore. I'm still looking for an alternative.

The only alternative to this intake is the Ganzflow or Cobb intake (they are the main two intakes for MAP cars 00-02).

The weapon-r is good for MAF equipped imprezas 99 and below (plus the wrx :rolleyes: ).

I am not being a hater ;), I am just speaking from experience :p.

Sorry I was vauge by that statement...

I meant that the MAF RS's used the weapon-r & seemed to like it alright...most people with MAP RS's didnt like the preformance or lack there of.

I have no right to talk down on it since I have never used it :p.

I don't know how many brackets your kit came with, but mine came with 1. The strip of zinc has a "u" bend at one end. This "u" is designed to fit in between the hose clamp and the connector. This bracket is not stable and the intake moves and shakes like mad. Yes it does take 30 seconds and it's easy. My point is that it should be a Subaru specific bracket that is sturdy. Wouldn't you rather have a bracket that is made for your car, rather than the same bracket that is used on Hondas? $200 is a lot of money to spend on a product that uses a 2 cent bracket that is supposed to work on every car.

I too bought the Dragon Intake for MY00. It does pull harder from 3500RPM and up to redline. I have to agree with Bouse 1. The bracket is not strong enough and I have broken three since I got the intake.

The filter does get dirty quick too. One thing I noticed is that when I took off my intake for polishing, I looked inside and saw light tracks of dirt inside the tube. Since I'm a clean freak, I think the dirty filter after cleaning is still dirty LOL, so I buy a new foam filter element for it for $10 online every two oil changes.

Only disappointment I would have with the intake is the lack of mounting bracket quality given to us.

I now have installed the stock intake and I forgot how much low end power the RS has. I have stored my Dragon Intake since I will be going turbo soon. If anyone is interested, let me know. It is blue with aluminum tubing.

If you get the Weapon-R intake, it's cool and all, but be sure to get the air filter mounting bracket from Kartboy. It's $40 and allows the filter to actually FIT.
