For pretty much all brake work, this book can't be beat. The suspension sections are also good, although not very thorough for those trying to tune for performance driving. There are very good sections for general maintenance, including more involved procedures such as engine coolant flushing, brake fluid bleeding, and even a clutch install. The sections on engine overhaul seem adequate, but I haven't had the need to refer to them yet.
The only glaring shortcomings are poor detail in the electrical and wiring sections, and no ECU pinout info at all. The cooling system and lubrication system schematics are somewhat oversimplified. For detailed wiring and OBD-II code info, you will need to consult the service manual.
At least 80% of this book is applicable to all Impreza's and Legacies, although equipment exclusive to the newer models will obviously not be covered. For less than $20, it is worth every penny for the do-it-yourselfer. The best part is, it can be found at most auto parts stores, Borders, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, etc.
