View Full Version : Question about base access
Getagrip 08-12-2005, 02:18 PM A many may know there is an autox on EAFB this weekend. SCCA has it set up so the entrants car be waved through the Boniface gate without going into the little biulding to get a pass. The question is, does the waving gaurd have a problem with cars with no front plate?

Do the non military participants have some kind of pass to show the gate guard? I'm wondering how the gate guards are going to know who the SCCA people are.

They have a list of SCCA people at the gate, sort of like how the pizza delivery guys and taxi drivers don't have to have a base pass to get on base. The SP's have a list of approved drivers from each company that can get on base without a sticker.
Kiwi Fella 08-12-2005, 03:02 PM So, become a taxi driver... fill car with tnt and sneak on thru and blow up a base! Sweet!
I hope they have a basic back ground check on them at least
This post is proberly now being watched by homeland security!
AKSubie 08-12-2005, 03:12 PM LOL, yes it is Kiwi
I woudl hazard a guess that is why the cutoff was a bit early for the non-military, I am positive they did a quick check to make sure we are not from bakalakadakastan

Cool. It would be a PITA to put my front plate back on, on site.
cooparu 08-12-2005, 06:06 PM Okay, next question.
How about temporary tags? My car is new, I have the paper temporary tag in the back window, but that's it. I was just at the DMV, and they don't have any record of my new car in the system.
The potential issue I have, is that when I registered for the SCCA event, I put my old plate # in my registration for the event . The base guards will be checking my car based on my plates. I do have my plates, they're my old personalized plates I will eventually have on my car.
What's my best bet to get on base in this situation? When they ask about my plates, just explain the temporaries and show them I have the plates, I just can't put them on my car yet? And show them the paperwork from the dealer?
I want to avoid a body cavity search or a stay at gitmo if possible.
AKSubie 08-12-2005, 06:23 PM do you have possesion of your old plates? If so.. my opinion (which lately sonsists of not much) woudl be put it on your car in the windsheild, and explain bluntly "I am here for the SCCA event, however I just bought a new car and have yet to transfer my plates over"
then again, you could be like me in the states, and run illegally with the old plates on it ;)
WRXnFX 08-12-2005, 07:12 PM I'd suggest doing what Ben noted above.
Put the plates on. I don't think they'd even notice.

prometheum 08-13-2005, 01:37 AM no; if you have no front plate they wont even notice, but they will give you a hard time if you have your plate on your windshield....i used to have it on my windshield because i was missing hte hardware to mount it on, and they told me to get it fixed everytime, so i jsut threw it underneatht he passenger seat they've never said anything about it since

i had temp plates on my car for like 3 months :D; as long as you have your application for a title/registration and insurance info you'll be fine
