View Full Version : LCD screens vs. cd/mp3 players

I'm debating about going the LCD flip out route. I'd like the novelty of being able to view/listen to a film at my discression. I would like the small wow factor of having a LCD, and would probably add a CAMP system later down the road.

That being said. I'm torn. I don't really know if I would like to drive around with a screen on all the time, just to listen to music. I don't really think I would watch/listen to that many movies to begin with.. but it might be fun for road trips etc. Not really sure if having a fold out screen would be as cool as I think it would be.

Regular cd/mp3 players just don't have the display size I like- almost too small to really read. Plus I would like more info, song title/artist/length of track- guessing the LCD could do this.

I guess I would listen to music more than anything.. or sat. radio. So I really don't need the LCD.. but I thought I would ask those that have gone the way of the LCD- why? Will you go back to regular cd/mp3 player? why/not?

This could also apply to non-motorized units as well.
TIA

I went with the non motorized dual DIN Kenwood DDX6017 unit because I wanted to see more about my MP3s on the screen, be able to fill a DVD with MP3s (which it can read, contrary to what the manual states), have an iPod adapter 9which kenwood has) and have navigation all on 1 screen.

When i dont want the screen on (long nighttime drives), I can simply turn the LCD off with 1 button, but continue to control volume, current track, etc).

^^^ I really think the double din screens are the best bet. Too many stories of motors wearing out. I really like the looks of the Kenwood units from pictures, but I need to check one out in person sometime.

thanks for the insight fellas... sounds like the motorized units have issues with movement after some time- makes sense if you think about it though.
Not sure if I really want to go double din at this time with a screen. Thinking I'll end up going with a mp3/cd from Alpine for now.

what is the iPod interface like with the Kenwood? I know that Clarion has a touch screen that emulates the iPod controlls makeing it really easy to navigate through 20 gigs of music. I like the Kenwood double din better than the Clarion flip out.
