Hi guys!

Can you integrate aftermarket security w/ subaru own or do you have to disable it?

Since you probably want to use the better features and better remotes on the aftermarket system, it would be best to disable the OEM security, so it doesn't respond to OEM remotes and doesn't mysteriously arm/disarm itself when you don't want it to.

Whenever I install an alarm for someone, I always remove the batteries from their factory remotes, because otherwise they could do something silly like unlock their doors without disarming the alarm and everything will go loud when they open up the car.

Also, if you take out the factory security system, you can prolly sell it on the private 'for sale' forum. But note that you do not necessarily need to sell the remotes with it. For '02-'05 Imprezas, the keyless system and security system are totally separate modules. The remotes are only matched to the former, NOT the latter. If you decide to sell the keyless module (which of course you can if you are getting an aftermarket security system) then you should sell the remotes with that.

Edit: techincally speaking, you can leave both the factory and aftermarket security systems in place and they will co-exist peacefully...so long as the installer knows how to do this. It may cause a problem in certain circumstances, like if you want remote start, so really the easiest and least painful thing to do is just remove/disable the factory system altogether.
