Well if he does'nt want to answer, I will. I had an 02 WRX, not as nice as the 04-05's but I loved it.

I just went and test drove the 06 wagon, and it is very nice. New intercooler and bigger engine = no turbo lag. Definately needs new tires because the stock tires suck. Shifting is great and it did not have the short throw. I can't compare the new wagon to the old wagon b/c the both drive differently than the sedan, but over all I liked it. Brakes are improved also.

I'll still wait for the STi though.

From an owner of a Leg GT (same tranny in the new WRX I believe), I know the tranny is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above my old 02 WRX. Smooth and defined. Not the "be all, end all" of tranny's but not the point of complaint anymore.

I guess that what he means by "it runs better"is that now that the WRX has the same engine as the Forester XT, you've got more lower end torque at your disposal (237 vs 217) and thus the car feels more powerful than the '02-'03. Also, you've got 17" wheels vs. 16" and better brakes. Overall I can see that. I personally will test an '06 once they arrive here and will let you know my comparison vs. the '02 (had one) and I'll try to test drive the '06 STi too.

ok that worked, wasnt working for a minute. I am a truck driver and just got back in town.The trans 5sp shifts much smoother than the 05 and 02, power delivery is very smooth, gets up to speed very quickly and at one point feels like the sti in its pulling (just doesnt plant ya in the seat as much). Handles much better with the 17s and looks better with those wheels too. Any more questions Oh one other thing this comes with is a rear rubber mat for the hatch floor. The 05 didnt come with that either.

The brakes sure are, I saw one at the dealership on monday. Red 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears. I wish I was buying another subaru this year. I would be into an 06 for the upgrades even with the downgrades in looks. I think it does look better in person then in photos, but I'm still bugeye till I die.

It really needs an option for the Forester's final drive ratio, however. 4.44 would mean scorching acceleration.

You aren't going to notice the extra weight of the 06. You ARE going to notice the flatter torque curve and better power delivery of the 06, though. There is no replacement for displacement.

Located in Topeka. The Subaru dealership here s*cks. We have bought our last two Subarus (02 WRX & 04 STI) from Jack Miller Olathe. It was EXTREMELY hard to trade in the STI. The wagon is no STI, but we are happy with the trade. :)
