IAMACOP 08-16-2005, 10:31 AM I hope they are good instructions, I called around and nobody wants to install this product unless you purchase it from them. I guess 3M is making them sign some contract that only lets them install products they buy directly from 3M or something.
One guy said he would install it for $750 but couldn't offer any type of warranty since he didn't purchase the film and cut it himself. When I asked him why so much, he said he was going to throw away the kit I have and use his own film. He also said professional installation on the WRX can take 6 hours and wished me good luck finding anyone that would install someone else's kit.
Said that 3M makes dozens of types of film that all look the same, but only one kind has a topcoat, antifungal adhesive, and UV protection, and that one is the most expensive. He said the only way to be sure is to see the film come out of the box with the correct part number. He also said that even if it is the right film, if it isn't cut properly, the edges can be ragged or the adhesive gets pulled out from under part of the film and it will never stick then.
I asked him if I could install this myself and he asked me if I could tint my own windows and I said no way. He said this was way harder than window tint.
RockBlocker 08-16-2005, 11:21 AM hmm, sounds like he is trying to take you to the cleaners and feed you with some misunderstandings.
There is only one 3M film not multiple ones as he suggests. If any installer takes 6 hours to install the kit you wouldnt want to use them since that is how long a beginner would take. A good installer can do it in 2 hours.
He is just trying to force you into using him as the installer and if he is the only one in town, he will say whatever he wants and charge whatever he wants.
OH yeah, 3M only makes the film and does not offer any pre-cut kits whatsoever. The installers cannot buy direct from 3M either. What 3M is looking for is to get a network of installers across the country that are capable of installing the 3M clear bra so consumers like you can find them. Nothing says they have to install one kind of product except that it is 3M film.
If you let us know where you are located maybe we can help you out some more. I assume with the price you are in NorCal??
If we can help let us know.

RockBlocker 08-17-2005, 10:45 AM Dont worry guys, We have them in stock so need to PM and ask if we still have them
Is the included colored headlight cover 16.5mil? Or is it 8 mil like the rest of the kit?
Do you recommend touching up any nicks and scratches with touch up paint before applying?
Also, what is the best way to remove an old headlight cover? I bought an ebay special before i saw your ads, and i will want to remove it. (besides it's 3 pieces per headlight, which sucks compared to yours)
Also, are there any problems or restrictions for using claybars/polish/wax on the vinyl?

20 for light protection. We always recommend touching up any areas beforehand since you cant do it afterwards.
Pull the light cover off and brace the light while doing it. did you say 3 piece headlight kit??
Dont claybar the films, just wax or polish as much as you want. I do mine every week.

Yeah, the headlight kits on eBay are actually FOUR pieces for each side (for 04+). There is the Main piece, a packman looking piece that goes over the highbeams, a half moon piece that goes over the turn signal, and an optional oval piece for fog lights (which i don't have). SO i have 3 pieces per side on right now. I haven't left feedback yet, i am furious :furious:
I have however gotten lots of Q's and compliments, but i don't feel personally satisfied because i could have gotten your one piece headlight kit for the same $$. The worst part is the seam over the highbeams....I could have made it fit fine with a heatgun and no seam! Also some of the edges are not smooth.
Not to get too far off topic, but what do you recommend for cleaning the headlights off really good after I take these off? Not sure what kind of residue these are going to leave. I used alcohol and water when applying.
RockBlocker 08-17-2005, 08:46 PM Yes,
Please clean them off really good and you might want polish them out a little bit to make sure everything is gone.
