Cold Air intake installed on an 02 2.5rs automatic

Now if you want an intake that sucks!! this is it. This is the meanest sounding intake I have ever heard. Now it isn't all noise boys and girls. This thing pulls so hard to the redline I was amaised what a little cold air can do for a NA 2.5rs Automatic none the less. (02model) It is a tad pricey but you know what. It is well worth it. The power, The sound and The evil grin. :lol: These are all the wonderous things that come in this powerful little package.

Received my Cobb cold air intake and had it in my MY01 RS coupe in 20 minutes, counting a break for a hoagie.

* Install is a snap!
* Instructions are easy to follow, though one bolt that holds on the stock airbox isn't mentioned, but it's no big deal.
* The engine pulls strong to redline with immediate throttle response - I won't even attempt to quantify with my butt-dyno - the difference over stock is immediately noticable.
* Great *honk, whoooosh* sound under hard acceleration - even my girlfriend was giggling and smiling at the sound as I passed people.

Recommendations (not my idea, but I forget where I read it):

Go get another length of silicon tubing in the color you ordered, slit it down the middle, and wrap it around the edge of the hole in the fender where the business end of the intake sticks into . . . cuts down on movement and gives it a more finished appearance (not that this unit isn't super-slick looking already).

Warning: Big hands? Recruit someone with small paws to attach the driver-side breather line to the engine . . . it's tight down there.

Mine is on the way!!! I can't wait. I have heard the beast and want that sound too!!! I have to modify mine though (my99:mad: ). Soooooo excited. Vrooom Vrooom!!!

i love my cobb cai...install was a snap except for the numbering of the hoses was kind of off but that was easy eough to figure out..and a little rubbing from that piece they said to bend up....but no biggy......pulls hard....love the sound....looks and performance all in one...i'd highly recommend it....well worth the price

when is cobb coming out w/ the MY 98 and 99 intake?

No immediate plans. I have talked to Josh and he told me that they have plans, but have not tested it. They are selling the 00-01 models very well and don't want to make the supply even shorter with 2 extra years thrown in. I am in the process of making my own using a cobb cai and the maf adapter that larry ganz sells. I will try and post pictures and such when i am done.

Great piece of equipment - possibly a little loud for us "older" guys, but a very noticeable power increase. Getting the driver's side breather line on the head is probably the hardest part of the whole installation. Overall, great part and I highly recommend it!:D

I had mine installed since Feb this year. I bought it from PRM . Jerry(owner/designer/manufacturer) sell them to COBB. He designed & made in Ontario, CANADA. Paid around $280.CDN polished. Got lucky for that price back then. Now it is more. Ship through my office save me some bucks .
Own a 00RS. Apparently the 99's has a different CAI. Make sure the year of your RS is mentioned.

I was thinking of picking one of these up, is it *significantly* louder than an aftermarket filter (ie. K&N) ?

Not that loud. Throaty sound! & my exhaust system was done when I purchased the car from Subaru city. (Brospeed exhaust with the 2.5 RS engraved on the tip) You do notice the difference after the 3rd gear and on. It is worth buying! good luck!

Cool. Do you find that you still have low-end torque ? I have been reading that some intakes that bypass the airbox (plenum) lose the low-end torque (although cobb claims theirs doesn't)

Not at all. Running fine & smooth. Got rid of bosch platinum plugs
since it has already starting to burn 4th wire. Using NGK BKR6E-11
about 1 month. I have to post some pics of the CAI. Good luck.
Also recommend to change rear sway bar to 20mm & also add a front whiteline strut bar from PDM racing . Don is an excellent biz man & accurate.

I was on the Cobb websit looking at this intake. For a WRX it claims that you need a "Unichip ECU upgrade." This costs about $650 and the intake is $275. Thats a hell of a lot of cash to spend. Do you think I realy need the chip to make it work????

Um, the cobb intake is only for the EJ25 engine, not the WRX

The APS intake for the WRX is not their NA intake (for the EJ25). Since the WRX's ECU is not very mod-friendly, they recommend the Unichip to get the best of any mod. For the EJ25 you will not need the unichip to get the power from the CAI.

I plan on the Unichip right after the CFO (wife) lets me get tires - damn RE92's.

Just before these last posts I thought I was going to bring it from the grave, but I guess that has already happened...

Are all the COBB CAI that were made for the N/A Subarus for MAP or MAF? I would like to get a good intake for my Legacy, but it is MAF and it sounds like these intakes might only work with MAP. Unfortunately it looks like they stopped making these, I guess I will have to try to find one used if it will work
