View Full Version : 05' WRX - no alarm *beep* & no brights now?!

Hey guys,

Randomly, about 2 days ago, my alarm stopped making the single and double *beep* sound for when I enable/disable it. I thought this was very odd, because if I pressed the 'lock' button 3 times, then my main horns would still honk.

On the way home last night, I noticed that my brights didn't turn on when I put them in the forward (continous) position, but they do when I pull the leaver backwards.

Anyone have some insight on these small electrical problems? The car is less than 3 months old and I'd rather fix this myself than take it into the dealership.

Thanks.

I think your two problems are unrelated. As for the alarm, it sounds to me like you've somehow switched it to valet mode. Your owners manual will show you how to set it back. As for the brights, check the fuses or take it to the dealer & let them deal with it.

Good luck,

Chuck

if you look at the back of the car alarm clicker thing, it will tell you how to turn the "chirp" on and off.

FYI, mine says:
1. Press unlock once
2. Press lock and unlock for two seconds

and this is for turning it both on and off. HTH, matt.

the chirping noise going off and on has been a problem to MANY of us... i, for one, had to deal with this many times and it gets annoying... sometimes the chip doesnt even come on when i switch from safe valet mode etc... and i gotta wait a day and THEN change it for the chirp to come back.. it gets weird.

the chirping noise going off and on has been a problem to MANY of us....

mine stopped working regularly at under 1000miles on the clock. it seems to only work sporatically when its hot out (90+ degrees). the dealer has verified the problem, but i just haven't had the time to drop the car off at the dealer for the whole day. i can't believe they won't give me a loaner for the laundry list of issues i have (which all appeared with <1000 miles on the car):

- alarm "buzzer" not working
- squeeky clutch pedal
- squeeky driver's side power window
- misaligned hood/bumper
- axle grease leaking from hub/lugnut area

my driver's side window was squeeky at first, it just needed to rub off some extra rubber. My car has ~350 miles on it, so the noise went away relatively fast.

Your 2 problems sound totaly unrelated.

As for the chirping....

Holding down the lock and unlock button at the same time will enable/disable the chirp functions. With valet mode, it can still chirp, but the lights won't flash. You can check if it's in valet mode by looking at your gauge cluster. The security light on the cluster will blink twice as fast when in valet mode.

If it still wont chirp, your buzzer behind the grill may be broken. Many have had that problem.....I did and it was a PITA to have subaru replace it, but they finaly did. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608657&highlight=keyless+chirp

A lot of people have been having the problem with the buzzer, but SOA will not put out a TSB. Make sure the chirper is not disabled before you come to the conclusion that it is broken.

with the door open hold the unlock button until it flashes...the beep is back...search the security forum for more info....there is no problem just valet mode...its happened to me twice already...no faulty chirper
