rocawear 08-17-2005, 12:51 AM hi there guys. i want the buy jdm lights they have at vividracing.com
they are the newest JDMS but without HID's
my question is that
can i use my stock 2005 usdm HID's and fit them onto the JDM's?
Mulder 08-17-2005, 06:48 AM #1- Think twice about buying anything from Vivid. many people have had problems with them and they were relieved of their vendor status on this site a long time ago. There is a long thread in the Vendor Reviews section you should read.
#2- The answer to your question is no, you can't do that.

but isnt the same ballasts and bulbs. i dont get why i cant use it.
rocawear 08-17-2005, 05:41 PM also can you please explain to me about the lighting patter thing. thanks
Impreza2003 08-17-2005, 06:28 PM a ballast is a ballast and any sort of OEM HID headlight will use a D2S or D2R bulb, so you can swap in your old ones if they're D2R or D2S
Mulder 08-17-2005, 07:00 PM If what you're asking is can you use the HID components from your lights and install them into halogen housings, you can't.

ho is it a halogen hosuing when it is the same thing? same exact sti jdm lights without hids and it has the ports and all the necessities to fit the ballast and bulbs. i still dont get how please explain
Hank3 08-18-2005, 12:39 AM If the JDM lights you're referring to were originally made for halogen bulbs, they will cause glare and hot spots, which is quite bothersome and dangerous to other drivers on the road. Although the reflector housings may look the same, they are different enough to where an HID bulb in a halogen housing would cause such glare.
More info on this can be found in the HID FAQ (particularly #3):

subieworx 08-19-2005, 09:21 AM You missed the first post about not ordering from Vivid didn't you.

the guy rich from vivid says that yes i can use my USDM ballasts and bulbs. and i dont get why vivid is so bad if i go and pick up the lights and instead of ordering them.
Mulder 08-19-2005, 01:32 PM Fine, if you're going there have them show you how the HID bulbs you have now will fit in those housings.

are u being sarcastic or for real?
SuperB10 08-19-2005, 03:13 PM It says right on the page for the JDMs that the STi HIDs need to be modified to fit in the new JDM housings. I wouldn't get them if I were you. The beam pattern won't be right for the US either and the light itself would be scattered and not as sharp as our OEM HIDs
Mulder 08-19-2005, 03:22 PM Halogen lights are made to accept specific bulbs, in this case H1. HID lights only accept D2S or D2R bulbs. The two are not interchangeable. You cannot take D2x bulbs and install them in the halogen lights, the bases are totally different. Don't think about "making them fit" either, this will not work out well.

i get it now. well i guess i will try to buy the JDMs listed on ebay with HIDs already. thanks guys. even they are about 920 used its safer and easier
Mulder 08-19-2005, 03:57 PM Are the ones on Ebay OEM HIDs or a retrofit? If they are halogens fitted with aftermarket HIDs the lighting pattern will be lousy and there is also the matter of the quality of whatever "kit" was used.
I'm not sure what this is all about in the first place, the OEM STi lights you already have are the best lighting option. You're not going to improve on them.

the reason mulder that i wanted HIDs are because i hate the USDM reflectors. the yellow kills the cars look. i love my headlights. the ligthing is great ur right. its just mine are tinted right now and at night i cant see nothing. but if i take the film kit off the yellow kicks in. the ones on ebay are actual sti headlights with the real ballasts and bulbs. they came off of a version 8 sti. worst comes to worst i will just keep mines.
