Sorry if this has been posted before, but all those of you who want an STi wagon, it seems Mitsubishi is getting into that arena first. Let me know if you can't see the pics below.

Someone call Volvo and let them know that Mitsu. chopped the rear off of one of their cars, One Crazy Summer style!

There should be an STi wagon, most definitely. But only a few companies can make sport wagons really work, and maybe Subaru doesn't want to make that jump, in the US market.
At least yet....?....

The EVO won't be for sale here. Why should Subaru try to compete.
They plan to make 250 of the EVO wagons, not really a great market.

So not by a longshot is Mitsu getting into it 1st.. STi has had a few iterations of the STi wagon over the years.

You mean 2,500, right? (according to the articles I've read... including the one above).

That's about 1/4 of the production of the sedans.

Hmm...should've known there were STi wagons out there. But if the "cross the pond", they will be first here... :D

Volvo V70R. IMHO the baddest wagon on the planet.

Badder than the Dodge Magnum SRT-8?

BryanH

I drove the Magnum wagon with the hemi and between the turret view of the world and the absolutely craptastic tranny...the Volvo is better. Maybe not as fast in a straight line...but if that is all you are worried about you wouldn't be driving a Subaru anyway. The SRT8 will share the same tranny and chassis so those two problems dont go away.

The Volvo just drove SO much better and the Volvo's 6 speed MANUAL gearbox is great.

The wife and I settled on a XC70 instead. Cost was a big factor but the V70 doesn't have the integrated booster seats or the third row seating.

that is a funny looking wagon. like they just slapped a box onto the back of the sedan. in fact it reminds me a bit of the 91-93 Legacy.

I mean in the likes of the STi and Evo rally genres; the Audi and BMW are in a different class, sort of luxury-premium. Yeah, there are a bunch of wagons out there, but none in the STi or Evo offerings.

I know nothing about this car. It does look nice. :)

But, is it better than the RS4/6 or BMW 5-series wagon?

BryanH

Maybe not an RS6 Wagon (which I dont think they make and wasn't mentioned in Car and Drivers tet last month) but I will stack it up against the RS4 wagon (which I also cant find any info on) or BMW wagon any day of the week.

The RS4 would not work for me due to size and the BMW would get its butt kicked unless its a M5 wagon. And I KNOW they dont make one of those.

Put the new E55 wagon on the list, 469 hp, 0-60 in low 4, quarter in mid 12s.

I want that EVO wagon .... very nice! I think I'll have to trade in the Explorer on it, if it ever makes it to the US.

First of all, I personally like the STi sedan more than the the Evo sedan. Having said that, I have always thought that the Impreza wagon looked odd and and the back end didn't have the same flow as the front end. Regarding the Lancer wagon, though boxy and looks more like a Volvo that shrank in the wash, plays the part of a wagon much better. I still wouldn't purchase a Evo wagon, it still looks better than an STi wagon.

Better yet would be a Legacy STi wagon. It's a more mature platform to compete with the Uberwagons from german like the recently annouced E55 wagon and possibly a S6/RS6 Avant and M5 wagon. On top of that, there might be enough space under the hood for a H6 turbo.

Up until recently when I couldn't find a new Legacy Wagon within 200 miles that met my desires, I had thoughts of a modified 350HP Legacy wagon surprising many a sports cars at a light or on the highway in my head.

Dude, you can't even get a turbo Legacy wagon with a manual transmission any more. :furious:

A Legacy STi is even more of a pipe dream.

Given that MMC views the Evo as more of a Legacy competitor than an STi competitor here in Japan, they are simply responding to the most popular sports wagon and sedan in the Japanese market. And the Legacy wagon has been around since the 80's. MMC already attempted this with the Evo GT-A (automatic) which had less than stellar sales.

Cheers,
