I get the auto industry trade magazine Automobile News at work. Each year they do an article on news and rumors regarding upcoming changes. This is the potion of the article that pertaining to Subaru. Notice that they have the Impreza redesigned for 2008 not 2007.

________________________

Forester: The Forester is reskinned for the 2006 model year. The wagon receives a new grille, headlights, hood and fenders. The rear has restyled tail lamps and a body-color trim panel that features Subaru’s six star brand emblem more prominently. Ground clearance has been increased to 8.1 inches, up from 7.5 inches.

Subaru is giving all Foresters equipped with the 2.5-liter boxer engine an X designation. That engine’s horsepower increases to 173, up horn 165 hp. The new 2.5-liter XT Limited is the only turbocharged model for 2006; it has 230 hp, 20 more than the predecessor. The Forester likely will be redesigned in the 2008 or 2009 model year.

Impreza: The 2006 Impreza and the two performance models, the WRX and the 300-plus hp STi, get reskinned this fall.

The front-end styling is reworked to give the cars Subaru’s new design cues, harkening back to the aircraft heritage of Subaru’s parent company, Fuji l-Heavy Industries Ltd. The look was first seen on the 2006 B9 Tribeca. The center of the grille resembles the intake port of jet fighters. Lateral grilles on both sides resemble the cross section of an airplane wing. The Impreza range will be redesigned for the 2008 model year.

Outback, Legacy: The Outback and Legacy will both be freshened in 2007; the vehicles may be 2008 models. A redesign comes in 2009; the vehicles may be 2010 models.

B9 Tribeca: The seven-seat, mid-sized, 2006 B9 Tribeca sport wagon went on sale in June. The B9 represents Subaru’s new styling direction, a look that eventually will be adopted to the entire vehicle line.

The B9 is assembled at Subaru’s plant in Lafayette, Ind. The vehicle shares a platform with the 2007 Saab 9-6, which will be produced there beginning next year.

Baja: The small pickup will continue at least through the 2008 model year, but the future of this slow-selling model beyond that is uncertain.

i said it once and ill say it again. Its all about the 8's. 1998 was an anniversary year for subaru, hence the 22b. 2008 is the next anniversary, its gona be something good.

Most people say a new model in 2007 because the 08's would be out in August of 2007, just like the 06's are out August of this year.

Your right,I must confess I do this all the time and it creates alot of confusion within my posts.Alot of stuff I have been reading says Fall 07 for the new 08 model.Boy two years is long time to waite.I hope it is something big like the other post said about the 8's.

Let's hope they correct the god-awful '06 front end in '08 MY.

That is straight from Subaru. Anyone else would have said its an alpha romeo. Have yet to hear someone really think...eh, that kinda looks like an intake on a jet. And "Lateral grilles on both sides resemble the cross section of an airplane wing"...and the tailights are engines right?

However they want to rationalize the styling... It's fugly. Claims of "it grows on you" haven't worked on me yet. And this is not just an '05 owner trying to justify their purchase. That front end is F'ed up!

Maybe we'll get a 32b? I'd like to see some more super neat Subarus around, XT6 or SVX style. Or the B11S, if it will exist. :p Or something. Yeah, a Legacy STi, with twin turbo H6 with 4 liters of displacement. :D

Maybe we'll get a 32b?Unfortunately I don't think "811" has any significance to Subaru... Now, if you were thinking that the 22b got its name from having 2.2 liters of displacement and the bilstein suspension, then along those same lines a 3.2 liter engine would be sweet, but most likely it's not going to happen.

I'm sure Subaru Japan will have a sweet car for the 50th Anniversary, something barely road legal.

The question is.... how much of it will we see over here? Maybe not a full-blown 22B re-do, but.... with the way we've been seeing an onslaught of performance cars lately, and they're only increasing (i.e. new Skyline/Infiniti platform, Supra, Honda back in the game with the new Si), chances may not be so dim after all.

Umm, no? Subaru puts out anniversary editions every 5 years. What special car did they make in 93? or 03? or 88? It's not about the 8's, it's about whenever Subaru wants to make a good edition.

I have read that Subaru is going to move the production of the 2008 Impreza's to the USA. Does this worry anyone else? I personally have a very hard time buying any car that is made in America.

what does 1993 and 2003 have to do with it? 1993 wasnt an anniversary car, that was just the introduction of the impreza which was brought about by WRC changes.

Doesn't worry me at all. My made-in-Indiana 1995 Legacy has been extremely reliable. Good design and production management matter a lot more than where the factory is.

Yeah, but all the engineers at the plant here in lafayette are Japanese. I've taken tours there with a Japanese engineer friend of mine and they are RIDICULOUS about stuff like six sigma, Kaizen, etc. I wouldnt worry about it, its not like Foresters, Bajas, and Tribecas have these huge quality problems...and they have been built in Lafayette at SIA.

Seeing as how the Accord and Camry (as well as many other cars) are both made in the US - yet still are benchmarks in quality - at any price - I really have zero worries about where a car is built.

I am always more concerned with who designs it... and I don't mean what nationality, I mean what company designs it. Unless Subaru starts taking engineering classes from GM, I really wouldn't be worried.

Unless Subaru starts taking engineering classes from GM...

With 21% market share in FHI and growing, I'd be careful about saying things like that...

Eh... GM actually has very good engineering courses, ever heard of the GM Institute (now known as Kettering University)? It's one of the top ranked engineering schools in the nation. I get your point, but GM was a bad example to use ;)

EDIT: I gotta stop replying to posts while I'm searching... sorry for pulling this back up

GM's end product - as well as millions of consumers a year - would have to disagree with you on that. Not that things aren't improving, but I would most definitely NOT consider GM's engineering department to be world-class... even if that is mostly the fault of the lousy bean-counters.

OH YEA, and holy bump-from-the-dead batman!
