apparently the Impreza that wrecked out the other night was NOT street racing... at least they are NOT for certain... but he was definately speeding... and took out a 10mph sign as he rolled to a stop.

Youch. Maybe I am turning into an old fart at 31 (time to throw out the B-boys), or maybe it is the fact that the more time I spend at the track, the more I understand how thoughtless reckless driving is...until you've actually gotten some training, it is pretty tough to really know what your car can and can't do. I myself paid the price of $1500 in suspension repair, but that is a lot cheaper than someone's life, or my own life ruined. Now I spend money on track time instruction for me and Kirsten....it is a mod that lasts a lifetime.

Also, if you *are* going to drive stupid or at the limits of your vehicle, make sure you are the only one in the car!

Just saying "Don't drive like an idiot" isn't enough, because, well... we all drive like idiots at one point or another. When I have other people in the car with me I have a responsibility to them to get the to their destination and back home safely. This responsibility is doubled by having two passengers, and tripled by 3 passengers.

I can't recommend getting at least a little track instruction enough, and here's why: We all like to speed, but none of us learned to drive. Oh, we sat in class and in the car and learned about all the laws, regulations, signs, rules, and insurance crap, but no one ever taught us the physics of the thing. So we get out there not knowing how to handle a car in an emergency situation. That is why speed limits are low amd exit ramp speeds almost child-like. Think all those Exploder roll-overs were from tires? Betcha there wouldn't have been any rollovers if the drivers knew not to jerk the wheel in the opposite direction during a blowout, then over correct in a panic as the rear end comes around. But we don't ever learn that, we never get to feel what that is like. Sure, the corporations are culpable too, but...

Half an hour on a skidpad with an instructor and I guar-on-tee it will improve your driving twice as much as a Stromung.

Um, so, uh, anyway... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/blush.gif There is a big diff between speeding and reckless driving. 90 in the middle of Montana or the autobahn is not reckless, IMHO. 90 on a two-lane with driveways and blind curves probably is.

With that said, speeding still is a form of reckless driving, but I won't get into it.

The point here is that everyone must remember the true dangers of driving. As fun as it may be, it does have a strong element of danger to it.

I hate to see stuff like this, no matter what car was involved. My deepest sympathies go out to the families involved

How can they charge with vehicular manslaughter when they:

1. Don't know for sure if the car was speeding?

2. Don't think he was racing?

3. If even the neighbors overheard "one of the teens was yelling about another car cutting him off."?

If they don't have evidence how can they possibly charge? Like someone else said in another thread somewhere, it doesn't take much to roll a vehicle.

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely tragic, and my condolences do go out to the family.

People need to stop being so immature with their cars. So many youngens seem to have the means to build up these fast imports and they have very little experience

It is obvious the police haven't released the full details of their investigation.

The police would have to have some kind of evidence in order to charge him.

I WAS the only one in my car when it flipped... I don't know how fast those kids were going but that car looks worse than my Prelude did at 75mph... and no, I was not racing... just driving to work... new suspension... stiff... more oversteer than I was use to... over corrected and then that was it.... the next thing I remember is being rolled onto my side as they put the back board under me............

To wake up in a hospital and not know what happened to you is scary as hell... to have to sit there strapped to a back board and remember the car in your blind spot is worse.... then when you start thinking about the people in that other car... I was blessed not to have taken them out with me... all I was asking anyone in the ER was "Was there another car involved?" I was scared that I had just killed someone.

And to imagine... some people can't understand why I am so anti-street racing... I like to cruise, but I laugh when stupid kids rev on me at lights and the such.

A side note...

The fact that two people died in his car while he was driving is enough "facts" to prosecute for "vehicular homicide" or "vehicular manslaughter."

But to charge the driver with vehicular manslaughter without any proof that he was doing anything that he should not have is very, very wrong. From the sound of the article, the police have just jumped to conclusions and someone who may not deserve it might get burned. It is not right. My condolences go out to the family and friends of those lost forever.

Time to throw in my 3¢.

Firstly, this sort of thing is just like a rear ending accident.

In a rear ending, if you rear end someone, its automaticaly YOUR FAULT. Reguardless of the guy in front of you flipping you the finger at 70, cutting in front of you and slamming on the brakes, you where not capable of stopping your vehicle in a short enough distance to avoid hitting his vehicle. Which means you where negligent in your driving abilities, or maintenance on your car, to make it stop properly.

Same thing with a roll over, doesnt matter how fast your going, what the cirsumstances where, if you roll your car, obviously you where well beyond your own limits of control for the car in those given conditions, and you used poor judgment in decerning those conditions, and it is your fault. Reguardless of "evidence", you where driving the car, you lost control, you went beyond the limits of your vehicle, and your driving abilities, it is YOUR FAULT! No matter what type of 1337 $p34< mumbo-jumbo you want to throw at it. There is no denying fault in the driver.

This is one reason i REFUSE to do any sort of "spirited" driving in my car on public roads, with passangers. If its in an open parking lot, or on at Auto-X course, i have no problem, enjoy the ride while you can. Public roads arent the place to showcase your drifting, and drag racing skills...or rather, lack there of.

Seconedly, everything i have heard about this guy makes me think one thing...THATS WHAT YOU GET!
I dont beleive this guy was a member of this club, and from what ive heard of his attitude, even if he was, he wouldent be welcomed here.
Ive heard of completely unsafe and recless driving at drag racing spots. Brash offensive driving on the freeway. Complete disreguard for his own, and anyone elses safty. And basicaly your average "im untouchable, screw you, im a rice boy god" mentality. And personally all i can say is, he had it coming to him, and thats what he gets. You can only play the game so long before you get burned. Its just unfortunate that he had to take two lives with him to learn an all to tragic lesson.

Now before anyone starts ribbing me ont eh rice boy comment. I knwo his car wasnt "riced out". But his brash, smug, punk attitude is what really makes a rice boy. Complete disreguard for safty, and beleiveing your somthing that your not. Weither it be Colin McRae or Alan McNish. Its not just about what your car looks like, its about your attitude. If you hve a bad attitude, and think your gods gift to the import scene, then your a rice boy. Thankfully this club is made up of true enthousiasts (for the most part), and we can all get along.
