How are they? Really white? Blue at all? Do they last long?

Don't bother with the Sylvania Silverstars. Look for the Osram Silverstars instead. Read this thread and search for others-

I was very dissapointed, installed and returned without leaving the parking lot.

I use the GE Nighthawk, and am pleased with them.

Osram SS seem brighter for me than the Sylvania SS..also have lasted MUCH longer in use. I was able to get a pair, shippped, on eBay for less than the Sylvania's cost at Autozone.

Osram's are nice but that doesn't help us stuck in 9007 land.

I've run Sylvania SS's for a few years [mostly because I picked up used bulbs for cheap], but am not particularly fond of them. They look brighter, more white, a little blue when looking at the front of the car, but the beam isn't great. I think the high beam is pretty weak. Have only blown one bulb in those few years, they have been reliable.

Been looking for Philips Hi-Visibility, but haven't found a local vendor that carries them.

Sanremors,
What model/year do your have? If your fitment is 9007 (i.e. '02/'03 Impreza), I would recommend the Sylvania XtraVisions for an "off the shelf" alternative. They're not amazing, but they do provide a bit more light and they're not tinted like the Silverstars (Sylvania).

IMHO they are a waste of money. Mine burned out in like a month.... :furious:

I've had them for about 6 weeks and I'm already looking for a replacement. I've found hellas which are even cheaper (and brighter) than the silverstars. I like the color, but I don't think the light output is greater than stock.

They have to be Sylvanias because-
- You can't get Osrams at auto parts stores, they are not sold through normal retail outlets in the US.
- As mentioned the Osrams are not available in 9007.

One of mine burned out in 2 months, leaving me with the choice of spending $23 on a (one silverstar) replacement bulb (so they match), or getting two new ones all together. I got the sylvania xtra-vision instead Two for $16.99 at walmart, brighter than stock, but no psudo flourescent glow I'm affraid. Made in Germany too. German made bulbs have always lasted longer for me. Sylvania silverstars are made in the us, and probabally assembled by illegal mexican immigrants. If I wasnt in a pinch for time to relplace my bulbs with the xtravisons, I would have ordered a set of osram silverstars from powerbulbs. Those were bright-bright in my mothers outback and lasted about a year and some months through extreme hot and cold weather, until one burned out. They seem to retain their out-of-the-box brightness until they fail, as well.

Anyway, I quoted TopKatz becuase I find on these forums that if you take the worst review(s) possible on something in these posts, its usually pretty close to what you can expect in your own experience. At least in mine.

On a random note, if you drop your hood closed everytime you check the oil, dont. This helps rattle your headlights around and lessens their life. Ive always lowered mine to the latch and then clicked it shut.

Ive always lowered mine to the latch and then clicked it shut. .....for those of us with aluminum hoods, it's not recommended. I always drop mine from a few inches (as the manual suggests). If it's any consolation, I check my fluids at nearly every fiil-up and my Xtravisions haven't failed me yet (~1.5 yrs).

.....I'm sure one of them will burn out now that I mentioned that. ;)
