AK_2002_WRX 08-22-2005, 06:06 AM hey you know him too? he did my headlight protection. he does great work! AK*WRX*2004 08-22-2005, 10:08 AM Has anybody priced out a 2004 wrx with front bumper, hood, window, and fender protection? -Gene eatwrx 08-22-2005, 02:22 PM It just has to look professionally done. He (Chris of Clear Car Armor) installed the film (entire kit) on my 03 wrx about 10 months ago. I highly recommend him. He does great work. Peterk 08-22-2005, 02:35 PM How much did that cost? AKSubie 08-22-2005, 02:39 PM I would highly recommend him as well. A few of the Audi guys have used him as well, and seeing the work first hand looks very good, 1st rate. I woudl use him if I would not already have a thousands chips on my car. AKLGT 08-22-2005, 03:05 PM dammit! i wishi i'd known there was someone that did that! i installed mine myself and have to say i'm quite unhappy with it. i want to have the entire thing redone next spring if i can. it'll do through winter for now. and you can look at www.rockblocker.com for pricing. also, check in vendor classifieds because they will often run sales since they are a vendor on here. OrionAK 08-22-2005, 03:06 PM Ditto! I saw Eat's car and it looks great. If I didn't have shotgun-blast amounts of dings and chips on the front half of my car, I'd do it to. Will, after a repaint. AKLGT 08-22-2005, 03:08 PM How much did that cost? +1 :) eatwrx 08-22-2005, 04:39 PM Yeah, one can buy kits and try (rockblocker, easystreet motorsports) to do it themselves. Heck, I'm sure he would sell you the products by themselves. You would be money ahead to purchase the kit and installation through him. I've seen what it takes to install the kits yourself and wouldn't try. I know you all want a price but he (CCA) is not a vendor on Nasioc. So you may need to phone or e-mail him (chris@clearcararmor.com). Go ahead and price the rockblocker or other products. Factor in the installation price (great install) and you will see that he (Clear Car Armor = CCA) is more than competitive to the lower 48 install prices. AKLGT 08-22-2005, 06:48 PM well, next time, i'm having it done professionally! RockBlocker 08-24-2005, 02:12 PM We recommend a professional install always, but if you want a great deal on the kit you can check out our sale in vendors/exterior. Pretty hard to beat :D 00Maddog 08-24-2005, 05:50 PM I am very interested in this stuff, to protect the new paint;) SQUAD_907 08-24-2005, 06:43 PM I am very interested in this stuff, to protect the new paint;) lucky! AKLGT 08-24-2005, 10:47 PM I am very interested in this stuff, to protect the new paint;) just rub it in, why don't you! lol AK*WRX*2004 09-23-2005, 10:30 PM Dang... I just found out how much the hood, fender, mirror, and bumper cost... $530.00 Installed But Chris is currently running a fall special of $50.00 off the full coverage package (above) so it comes out to $480.00... That's soooooo expensive. I just had my bumper repainted and it was about the same, maybe less than that. I know for a fact that Chris does good work and they offer a 2 year warrenty on the install and 5 years on the film which is unbeatable... The best things is that it only takes about 2-5 hours depending on what you want them to have coated. They can also cut out customized sheets for any part of our cars. It's about $20 a lineal foot. I'm not sure if I want to do this or not, do you guys think it's worth it? I'm going to have to wait for another week or so because of the paint job but I don't want to wait too long, rocks+bumper=OH NOES!!!!! -Gene AKSubie 09-23-2005, 10:59 PM I could seee it being useful, as I stated here or elsewhere, with the amount of rck chips and crap flinging up, I'd be all over it if mine wasnt already pitted. I have seen Chris' work, and it is top notch. repaint versus film.. I dunno. I dont honestly know that much about the product, BUT... if in 5 years I need a reaplique of it rather than a whole new spray, it might be worht it.. keep the factory paint... factory. RockBlocker 09-24-2005, 12:02 PM 5 years is what 3M offers for the film that is why it is what it is. We offer lifetime on install and film if purchased from us. PITA! eatwrx 09-24-2005, 05:00 PM 5 years is what 3M offers for the film that is why it is what it is. We offer lifetime on install and film if purchased from us. Rockblocker: If I were to install it myself and mess up (has little wrinkles, bubbles, etc.) t the extent that I didn't like the appearence. Under warranty, would you replace the film so I could try again. Or is installation the responsibility of the installer. Who do you recommend as an installer of your product in Alaska? AK_2002_WRX 09-24-2005, 07:03 PM hey ak2004wrx, if you are going to get a full kit like that, you should just have CCA do it professionally. you'll kick yourself in the ass if you screw up the huge bumper piece, and you'll have money down the drain. and you can bring your car to chris' place, or he can go to yours, just has to have a garage. i did my own headlight protection and it sucked ass, so i had CCA take my ****up off and had him put his on. one of the best investments for the car. if only i had money for a full kit:( damn college:furious: AK*WRX*2004 09-24-2005, 07:33 PM hey ak2004wrx, if you are going to get a full kit like that, you should just have CCA do it professionally. you'll kick yourself in the ass if you screw up the huge bumper piece, and you'll have money down the drain. and you can bring your car to chris' place, or he can go to yours, just has to have a garage. i did my own headlight protection and it sucked ass, so i had CCA take my ****up off and had him put his on. one of the best investments for the car. if only i had money for a full kit:( damn college:furious: ^^ Yeah... I know, but I go to college as well... I'm hoping Rockblocker has a pro installer up here in AK that doesn't charge more than Chris. If not then I guess I'll just have to go with Chris. Sooo much $$$$$$$$$. -Gene AK_2002_WRX 09-24-2005, 08:03 PM its worth it in the long run. i already had to replace a headlight before i got headlight protection. AKLGT 09-25-2005, 02:54 PM when i looked in May, rockblocker did NOT have any one in AK to install. :( had i known that this chris guy could do it for a little more than what i paid, i'd have had him do it! anyone want to see if he'd be interested in a "group buy?" see how many people are interested in him doing all our cars for a discount?? 00Maddog 09-25-2005, 05:15 PM im in AK_2002_WRX 09-25-2005, 06:06 PM i'm interested in getting some protection on my hood. GB! :disco: AKLGT 09-25-2005, 07:42 PM anyone know how to get ahold of him and see if he'd do a group buy for us AKIC members? :) that would be awesome! PFD! if those studded tires are about $400, then i still have $445 left! :D RallyX13 09-26-2005, 02:36 PM Here is his contact information. I will let him know that you guys are looking to do a group buy: -Chris chris(at)clearcararmor.com 301-1939 eatwrx 09-26-2005, 03:28 PM He is at the neighboring cubicle at my work and is aware that there is an interest in a group buy. When I spoke to him yesterday (at work), he said that his install prices are pretty low already ... especially considering the fall special prices he has been offering. Here are some other examples of prices he has done. 2005 VW bug - $672 with the discount. Volvo S40 - $715 before the fall discount. Here are some of my observations. 1) Install prices for different cars vary. For example, the price to do an install on a wrx might be different than the price on a legacy or STI. This is because of different coverages for the kits and install difficulties (bends, contours, etc.). 2) Another thing to consider the prep work associated with getting the vehicle ready for acceptance of the film. His prices likely reflect the cost of doing the install on new vehicles or vehicles that are clean and nearly ready to accept the film. In other words ... if his job starts to be a wash and detailing job ... one can expect to pay for that work in addition to the film and film installation. PS: And in case you were wondering ... I am not his agent, do not work for him, get a finders fee, etc. He installed the kit on my car and I am happy with the workmanship. From the reports from others ... they are pleased also. Whether you decide to get the CCA, rock blocker, etc... is your choice. |
