Looks like i'll be switching over to a cable modem asap. Prolly start with the 7Mbit with UNLIMITED downloads. Jordy should post a free bump in speed under "the hookups" thread.

How about akwifi.com TelAlaska? How are they as an ISP? Their system looks similar to what AT&T tried to do a few years back.

I saw that unlimited GCI plan in last weekends paper. Looks like a good deal.

I've done lots of testing to verify the speeds...you should get them and if anything, its for the unlimited downloads...and HD TV! ;p

Thanks for the heads up I can update my biased opinion accordingly. Is there any way to see if there is any "fine print" regarding the unlimited downloads, normally it is throughput not just download that GCI advertises the caps at (5GB throughput, 10GB throughput etc). I would just not be too surprised if d/l unlimited but u/l may have a charge after cap still.

I now live in a location where I get d/l's at speeds quite a bit higher than I am supposed to using GCI, paying for 1MB tests show 1.5+ on average at late hours..first time ever even getting what I paid for though.

Testing for the company? Because as a consumer I had it for 3 years and never hit close to reported speeds while "testing". Oh, and ACS offers the Dish Network package for the HD TV! :D

So in other words.. I won't be getting owned by GCI anymore?... did I read this correct... I was going to ACS to switch this week.. but it this is true... I won't get owned on uploads... then I'll stay..

Look closely at the print for the deal though...it looks like you have to sign up for "the Ultimate Package" (phone, cable, and internet starting at like $80), and then the $40 for unlimited bandwidth is tacked onto that price. In other news, Verizon is offering 15MB/sec with unlimited bandwidth (I'm pretty sure most other companies gave up on that idea in the last century) in some major cities in the lower 48 for $50/month. I love Alaska!
