View Full Version : Car dealershps vs NASIOC Private owners
thetomstudley 08-26-2005, 12:46 AM Ive been shopping around the past couple weeks for a WRX(02-03) and i just want to say that the prices ive been seeing from you guys are sooo much better than the dealerships ass-raping prices. Ive test driven so far, and the average asking price has been about 15-16. The 2 dealerships ive gotten quotes from are wanting like 20-22. So if anyone is considering getting a used WRX in the anchorage area, dont buy from a dealership, there plenty of private owners that arent trying to make you grab your ankles.....
By the way, who owns a wrx on ft Rich? Ive seen some nice ones! Dont worry ill be next, i have a 7k bonus to blow, you'll see me rolling around in one soon enough.
fc6666 08-26-2005, 01:45 AM I paid 14,999 for mine in 2003, 60k I owner. Then again I bought mine mine in KCMO.
Now it has 91k, and is worth about $4,500 :D
Try those park and sell lots, I've seen a Yellow Sedan and WRB Wagon at one.
or www.autotrader.com thats how I found mine.
stArs Inked 08-26-2005, 01:54 AM I realize that I am a bit further down south than you guys, but I just bought a '04 WRX for $18K here in Houston with 40K on it. The same folks had a nice '02 Blue with 45K for like $15K...
Spitfyre02 08-26-2005, 01:55 AM Damn 20 to 22, I got mine for 20 about 2 years ago.
fc6666 08-26-2005, 02:01 AM Supply and demand, price gouging at its finest.
And/or transport fees, dealer profit.
yukon1 08-26-2005, 04:49 AM Let me know what your looking for, I saw four or five wrxs for sale here in town today.
blackdout 08-26-2005, 05:04 AM dealerships will try to get the most out of you. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt, it just depends on the person and how much research they do on purchasing a car. You can easily get those 20-22k vehicles down to 18,000 or so, it just depends on how the dealership took the vehicle in, trade in value, reconditiong cost, advertising, how long its been sitting there etc.
SparkysJDMSpeedWagon 08-26-2005, 07:12 AM the other advantage of buying from a private party is actually knowing the former owner. Even with a 2002, you're likely to be buying from the original owner. I'd still insist on taking the car to a mechanic or the Subaru dealer, just to be sure. But it goes a long way to meet who owned the car before you.

Im looking for either an 02 or 03 WRX for my 1st car........, sedan, manual, add-ons are ok, my price range is from 10k-19k. Preferably low miles...... Where did you see all of these wrx's?
edo2000 08-27-2005, 10:18 PM ...Where did you see all of these wrx's? Yukon1 mentioned that he saw a few, but... he is up in Fairbanks, only 340 miles from Anchorage ;) .

yes. it'll give you an idea of how hard they drove that turbo! and if you think it's likely to detonate on you. but highly recommend taking the car (any car you are seriously considering purchasing) to a trusted mechanic.

yeah i mean the dealerships want to make money too. a lot of the time when you buy from private owner, they just want to get rid of it and don't care if they make a profit. but one thing that is good about buying from a dealership is that they warrenty their cars and trucks. private owners can't do that. so don't bash on the dealerships. just work them down.
Kiwi Fella 08-28-2005, 04:35 AM One thing I don't trust about buying from a private owner is that you are driving someones typically hard driven car.... can not say that I would buy one from most on here.... other than Chads one!
Buying from a dealer gives me a little piece of mind that the car has at least been checked into.... and its different buying from a company like continental vrs Red, white and blue auto sales!
Benefits to buying from either one.... depends on what you want!
