View Full Version : Only 06 special edition available
Hello Everybody. Newbie here. My wife and I just put in an order for an 06 impreza outback. We just got a bizarre call today from the dealer saying that they got a call from Fuji inc that they will not be selling the Impreza Outback WITHOUT the special edition option. You can only get it with the sp option
This is after getting a delivery number and everything. Does anybody know what the heck is going on?
Stickee 08-26-2005, 11:13 AM B.S. is going on. No dealerships get calls from Fuji Heavy Inc.
MrDestructo 08-26-2005, 11:19 AM I'm sorry to say that I'm 99% sure they are blowing smoke up your @$$ and trying to increase their profit.
They are wrong. Turn away and buy somewhere else if you can.
Beaverboy 08-26-2005, 11:40 AM And report them to SOA.

Excellent Subaru Info.
SoDealer 08-26-2005, 01:58 PM I think the truth lies very closely with what the dealership told him...SOA has no regular Outback sports for the first batch of 06 imprezas. They are all special edition. I don't think any funny business is going on here...If you need peace of mind...call SOA for clarification...and the Outback sport SE is a pretty good deal...over $1500 in accessories for $500....for what's offered like the 6 cd changer and sub...i'd think it's a no brainer.
Thanks, I am going to give them a call and see what the deal is.
MrDestructo 08-26-2005, 05:17 PM Well, if this statement what wha Yal actually meant to say,
We just got a bizarre call today from the dealer saying that they got a call from Fuji inc that they will not be selling the Impreza Outback WITHOUT the special edition option
Then there is a problem because it's not true. They will be making it.
I guess we'll find out what is really going on.

i just answered this...unless there has been a change in the last month which i highly doubt... there are no 06 outback sports without the SE package for the first allocation of 06 Imprezas...that's not to say they won't be made. but they are not available with the incoming batch.
How can you call something "Special Edition" if it is the "Only Edition" :)
Kind of like the Legacy GT "Limited"............since there is nothing that is NOT limited........./head asplodes

Spoke to SOA and they have no knowledge of the "SE only" mandate for North America. I was kind of shocked at how little information they actually have.
I think SoDealer is probably right they may be holding the non SE outbacks back for a few weeks or months. A lot of manufacturers aparently do this for the USA, they bring the fully equiped models over first for some bizarre reason. Chrysler did it with the Pacifica and regretted it. Subaru will probably have better luck because of how close the price is between the SE and the non SE.
Going to talk to the dealer tomorrow just to clarify everything
Subaru really has a funny way of building hype for their cars. The dealers don't even have posters or brochures for the 06, yet they have these new cars sitting in the lot

I remember going to look at the then-new 2004 WRX sedan at a local dealership, where it sat, on the lot, with the sticker in the window. The dealership didn't have brochures yet, but they said to call SOA and have them send one. I called SOA and they told me that the brochures would be ready in about a month after the cars hit the showrooms.
I told the Rep that I had seen one on the lot, and he told me it was impossible, they (the 2004 cars) weren't out yet.
Go SOA! On top of things as usual!
shipjumper 08-27-2005, 02:50 PM in new england we arent getting regular legacy 2.5i's at all. They are only buying the 2.5i s/e for the dealerships. moonroof and power seat for an extra $300.
Im not one to complain, but sheesh, some people dont like moonroofs.
ScubieDoobieDoo 08-27-2005, 07:26 PM i work at a dealer in houston. i just checked on this myself. just so y'all know, i've been with subaru for 10 years, and tend to actually KNOW a couple things about our cars, so this is no bull. it IS TRUE..for 2006, the outback sport AND the legacy 2.5i will ONLY BE SPECIAL EDITIONS. and i do agree, if it's the only edition, they shouldn't be called SEs. it's kinda like the first year of the forester. there was the forester, the L, and the S, but nobody got the L(i believe it was fleet only, but dealers only got the L and S).
shipjumper 08-27-2005, 07:50 PM we have the ability to ORDER the 2.5i legacy, but only on special order, SNE will not SUPPLY us with the cars.
they are still made, but not normally distributed.
impreza99 08-27-2005, 08:00 PM pics dont look to bad, I think the new front is deffentily growing on me
:)
Went by the dealer and he was talking about the Outback impreza issue. We went ahead and got the special Ed anyway. Thanks for the picture SoDealer! :)
The dealer said that a bunch of tall owners came in and wanted to order the so called Legacy special ed without the sunroof like they could the previous year and they couldn't. Problem is the sunroof takes and extra 2 inches or so of headroom. So they ended up not buying. That was bizarre.
I agree! If a special edition is all you can get then it is not a special edition
Anyway will post some pics when we get the car. Thanks all! Memo to Subaru "You make great cars! But get your presales act together." :)
kevin 5150 08-28-2005, 02:43 PM the new OBS looks good!!! the new front end is not so noticable with the two-tone colors. and i like those 7-spoke rims too. :D
DryIce307 08-28-2005, 03:21 PM Maybe it's the special edition because it's the only edition  As in instead of having a couple different editions, they only have one "special" edition.
BillyC 08-29-2005, 01:55 PM This is true, in our area the Subaru rep has stated that even the Legacy models will be 2.5i special edition only, no base legacy.
Same thing with the outback sport.
Nasiocks 08-29-2005, 02:51 PM I like the color.
b4wantab 08-29-2005, 04:48 PM So if everything is a SE that must make it up-scale.........
Very good marketing approach.

everything is only an SE for now...to my knowledge it was only for the first allocation that there were no regulars...and i doubt it had anything to do with marketing.

That is not a 2006 Outback Sport SE.....a Canadian car, no SE models there :)
