Why trade an 05 for an 06? Regardless if the 05 is a RS your going to lose a lot of money doing that. Just my 2 cents

I just stopped by Continental a few minutes ago, they said they're ordering them but it'll be October at least until they get here. I'm waiting on those too. Whats up with their huge mark up on top of msrp anyways???

It is the "regional adjustment", or "additional shipping charge to cover getting it here".. essentially, it is a bogus amount that a few dealers I talked to stated it was purely BS. NEVER EVER EVER pay it, always work from MSRP. If they dont want to work from MSRP then go to the Seattle Dealer. My view is it is there purely for profit. BUT you might run into 2 types of dealers, one wont give 2 craps about it and work from MSRP like they should, the other will get high and mighty and not budge from the inflated price. Depends whom you work with I guess.

08-29-2005, 03:27 PM
I remember a few salesmen (at different lots) trying to convince me that other customers are happier with their vehicle when they pay more than MSRP.

So the extra money isn't for their profit...it's so you can feel better about your purchase!

On a more serious side, having a dealer mark-up makes those trade-ins appear more valuable and reflect a near new cost for a used vehicle.

Plus, then when they knock off the $2000 during noegotiations, then they can say that they are working to get the best deal for you. :D

Gives them lots of numbers to cross out on the sheet they take back to the manager for "approval".

AKSubie
08-29-2005, 04:46 PM
LOL, yeah... I actually had that happen when I was gunning for a Tundra when I moved here. Nye was having a "sale" so went there, long story as short as possible, After moving here I was going to buy a Tundra, went to Nye, got the regional adjustment taken off after some argueing, Finally though "good, now we can decide price", dealer thought otherwise, I walked out and bought a Subaru. Still woudl love to buy a Tundra, but not from here, actualyl doubt I'll ever buy a car from up here again. perhaps from an individual.

Well, continental of anchorage's only real competition is the dealer in fairbanks. Costs too much for shipping from seattle or anywhere else. The salesman told me yesterday there that he would beat any deal I got from fairbanks by $300, should work to my advantage when I decide to buy a impreza next year.

Exactly, the dealers up here have that mentality, the "where else you going to go?" vibe.

Check prices, some peopel have bougt from Seattle and WITH shipping to here came out ahead.

Watch out for the bees. When I was there, and about to go for a test drive, Conti's beekeeper unleashed their finest on me. I did the test drive with 2 fingers that didn't move. When I got back, my hand was the size of a glove, and burning like a mofo. I went and got benadryl, came back, and we negotiated.

Bee or not, I was still able to see through their ruse. I left before my judgement became too impaired and I bought 7 Bajas.

(I came back the next day and bought my current car, after selling my old one)

The boys at Conti got me an ice pack, and made some lighthearted jokes about me suing them.

I laughed too, it's not like they have control over bees.

Then I put my foil helmet on and got to thinkin'. Maybe they do...

Did they have any good models left when you were there? Or was it all Outbacks still? Take any for test drives?

I was pretty much just looking at the new RS's, they only had about 5 or so, only 2 were manual. They had probably the same amount of wrx's. It was very cold outside talking to the salesman for like 2 hours! But it was my first time seeing those impreza's up close, let alone being inside one so I found there is a lot to be said from just reading stuff on the internet about them. Very awesome cars but I'm going to wait until 2006 probably cuz I hate those bubbly headlights! :p Also, he said that they dont get any RS sedans with the sports package, they just have the wagon style.... I've seen these on the internet so I'm pretty sure they exist... right?

cooparu

The sedan with the sport package has more goodies than my "sport wagon".

http://www.subaru.com/shop/overview.jsp?model=IMPREZA&trim=25_RS_SEDAN&command=overview

Not sure how the 2006 packages will look.

Sounds like they were trying to get you to buy one of those wagons. :p

Peterk
08-29-2005, 07:02 PM
No I would never buy a wagon, cant put a proper wing on them ;) I asked the salesman about the turbos and he said that only the pre-2004 turbos on like wrx's had the knocking problem when using 87 octane gas. He said using 87 in a newer one is fine but with just decreased gas milage.

Wow, not that the 04/05 WRX engine is exactly identical to 02/03 WRX engines or anything...

Buy the WRX TR and tell us how it is! Sounds like it could be a fun car that doesn't have all the extras you don't want (kind of like a poor-man's Spec C, I guess?)

It was Jason in sales that I talked to. Probably was a sales pitch, but from the sounds of it he's the one that moves a majority of the wrx's and sti's there lately, he was a pretty good guy though considering he stuck with me for several hours while he showed me the cars even though he knew I wasnt going to buy yet, a lot of salesman wont do that. Either way though I think with the situation with the octane you either have to pay for the higher octane for the turbos or pay for the repairs after using the lower octane. The wrx TR looks pretty interesting, I'll be looking into it when they come out but unless gas goes way back down I dont think I'd be able to afford it. I figure I could just save the money for a new RS and spend the extra for more acessories and I think maybe a stage 1 would be enough in terms of performance. I'd have to get an STI spoiler those are too cool! Oh, besides size, what exactly is the difference between the RS engine and the wrx and sti engines besides the turbo and intercooler? Jason said the one in the RS was just like an sti except without the turbo pretty much...

btn_turtle
08-30-2005, 12:34 PM
basically. its my understanding that they all have 2.5 liter engines now so theyre all the same except RS-no turbo, WRX-small turbo, STi- gigantor turbo hahaha. something like that, but i do know that the wrx is a 2.5 liter now, upping it to like a whoppin 235hp haha. but yeah, i will be checkin out the TR's and what not when they come in as well..i just found a pic of a red one....HOT! ill post it up to show everyone.

Am I one of the few fans of the bugeye?

Anyway, 06 B9 Tribeca and 06 Legacys are already on the lots. No WRX though... Waiting to see one in person before I say for 100% certainty it looks like crap. Yeah someone was moving those STi's on the lot... we had like 5 at one time, were all gone in like 2 weeks. Probably a good thing for my marriage they did since I was drooling with an empty pocket and annoying the wife. :D

upping it to like a whoppin 235hp haha.

230 hp, 235tq, according to the propaganda (said same engine setup as '06 Forester XT which gained it extra hp {from 210} by eliminating the up-pipe cat and added this funky air-injection thing to make up for the emissions--wonder how tunable that will be?). So only 3hp, but a decent chunk of torque!

Mavrik--nope, not the only one with good taste! Although I love the GC8, I wouldn't trade my bug-eye in on the 04-05's or this new one. Don't listen to Jax, he's always very opinionated, it's just usually the wrong opinion. We've all learned to just pat him on the head and let him say his piece while we ignore it. That's what his councilors at the ARC told us to do. :D

Although my little wagon is doing just fine...if the tuners adopt the 2.5L wrx and support it with EM and power stages ... then why not.

For example, the tuners (such as Vishnu and COBB) off the counter support (EM's for TBE) for the FXT and LGT are less than appealing. I want turbo options with off the shelf EM maps.

eatwrx- He basically said both to me about the octane.
silver_surfer- Are you a salesman at continental?

I'm really not sure what I think of those new front ends on 2006. Looks like in that picture that theres a few options added to that car, I wonder what the real difference is between base wrx and base TR. Jack Forbes at Continental says the new 2006 impreza's should be arriving "soon" and Jason told me it'll be a few months. So, we'll see I guess.

Sounds like the TR is just an '02 WRX! :)

EAT--They have support for the old FXT (and some turbo options out there). I'm just wondering specifically if this air injection thing will get in the way. I'm sure it will be overcome if it DOES, but I wonder if it will pose any problem at all (or perhaps help?) Not sure if you knew this about the older FXT but if you swap a turbo and exhaust with an STi (injectors too, come to think of it) you can slap a stock STi ECU in there and have an STi Forester (as far as engine goes).
