I am pulling my very first engine (gulp) and have a couple of questions

(1) My service manual is stating that I need to "lock down" the torque converter clutch case with Part# ST 498277200 (STOPPER SET)
- Is this really necessary ?
- If I do this will I still need to get the clutch/transmission alignment tool ?


(2) Manual is telling me to separate the torque converter from the drive plate. I cannot tell from the picture where this is located. Can someone better explain this for me or post any pics ?

Do you have an automatic or manual transmission? You won't need a clutch alignment tool if you have an automatic. As for pulling the motor with an auto.....you will need to seperate the converter from the driveplate. Whether you need to lock it to the transmission....I don't know. Others will surely chime in with more experience. Old school RWD cars usually didn't require the converter to be secured to the trans...it would stay on if you were careful not to pitch it forward too much.

I've only pulled from manual scoobs. Go slow and doublecheck everything along the way. Good luck!
