This is the report I filed with the BBB and the Attorney Generals Office. They used to be called Kirkland Subaru but as of this spring they still have the same over priced sales tactics.
COMPLAINT INFORMATION
Went to buy a Subaru Impreza RS2.5 coupe at Totem Lake Subaru WA. (Kirkland Nissan Rosehill 12345 NE 85th St. Kirkland WA. 98034). Sales person Brian Young showed me a nice silver one with leather seats. I asked how much for this one with the leather? He said you can get into this one for around 18,000. My two friends and I all herd 18,000 very clear. He took us for a test drive and then to the sales office to go over a financing quote. He
left us with another person and he left to go back to the lot 2 blocks away.
After 20 min. of giving this person all my personal info, and that I made 64,000 a year and telling him there was no trade in and I would pay cash. He then came up with a price of 25,500 plus tax and license. This price was supposedly only 18% over invoice. I told him the price Brian told us (18,000) and he more or less called us liars. He would not even call over Brian to confirm the price he stated. I asked him please call Brian. He
said no, Brian didn't say that. I would have bought the car on the spot if they had kept their word.
The person writing up the quote first had the price as 18% over invoice. Then when asked "don't Costco members get a discount off the 18%". In disgust he said you're a Costco member? Like he did not believe me. I showed him the Costco card he scribbled out the quote, wrote down 8% for markup and refigured the numbers moving around things and it was still 25,000. I said no way. He left to talk to the manager or someone and came back in 10 minutes with what he said was a quote "with zero markup". They then tried to show the cost of extras on the car. 18,700.00 for invoice from the factory. In fact this is "the factories MSRP plus 2,000.00 for extra for leather seats that were custom andnot offered by Subaru. In fact all Subaru's have the option to have leather. This was $2,000 extra? 400.00 For Tinted Mylar on the windows. I know at retail price you can have this done for $150 almost anywhere. Mylar alone at retail price is under $40.
450.00 Destination charge.
470.00 Dealer prep.
870.00 for Silver bezels around gauges. $870.00!! This is not factory option but you can get if from custom magazines for about 199.00 retail and install in about 20 min.
500.00 for CD player. Full Premium sound system with
amps, subwoofer high-end speakers, CD is only 600 from the factory as anoption.
I'm missing a few things but the total at this last "at invoice cost" offer was About 24,000 plus tax and license. This was only about 4% under the 25,000.
If you take his original full price quote of 25,500 (at 18% markup) and take off the 18% you have $20,900. All this is deceptive to try to confuse the customer into thinking your getting a good deal.
After much home research I have come up with a correct price of about 18,600 to 19,000 (plus tax and license) for the car.
I wrote Subaru of America and there comment was each dealer is independently owned and I would have to contact them directly. I have written Kirkland Nissan with two letters with no reply. Tried to Call Brian with no luck.
Thank you,
I got one at another dealer with all the same options for $19000.
