CRex 08-30-2005, 10:04 PM hmm awd 2.5l turbo charged roadster... i would buy it... especially if it was cheaper than a tt and not as porky... Jon [in CT] 08-30-2005, 10:14 PM You mean something like this (http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=2&article_id=1165&page_number=5)? http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/image/0127200416532723.jpg http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/image/0127200416532629.jpg MattDell 08-31-2005, 12:04 AM AWD Convertible 2-Seater does not make a Roadster. In my view, roadsters are RWD. Nothing else. :o -Matt rsholland 08-31-2005, 01:00 AM AWD Convertible 2-Seater does not make a Roadster. In my view, roadsters are RWD. Nothing else. :o -Matt Huh? Where is that written in stone? Bob C17LOAD 08-31-2005, 01:06 AM AWD Convertible 2-Seater does not make a Roadster. In my view, roadsters are RWD. Nothing else. :o -Matt Huh? Where is that written in stone? Bob Apparently in his mind. Thats where opinions are formed. Not alot of stone is formed there though. I personally would welcome the Scrambler. It would be sweet to have a "real sports car" in the Subaru lineup. Rapid_Roo 08-31-2005, 01:10 AM true roadsters don't have tops at all. MattDell 08-31-2005, 01:18 AM Huh? Where is that written in stone? Bob Nowhere, that's why I said "In my view." Contextual objects help you understand and comprehend. ;) -Matt Integra96 08-31-2005, 01:18 AM Something simple and Miata-like would be nice, too. It would have AWD, but otherwise be very basic and lightweight to keep the cost down. The new N/A 2.5L non-turbo would work just fine. It would be the first Subaru sports car proper. :) SUBE555 08-31-2005, 08:05 AM Roadsters are a saturated market with lots of already good offerings there. I think it would be a bad business move for Subaru to go there, personally. DISCLAIMER: This statement was purely based on an opinion, not something set in stone. ;) Eby 08-31-2005, 08:19 AM I think it would be good for them. If they kept the price down to between the miata and S2000 range, they'd be the only AWD roadster in that range. If they wanted to further set it apart they could include(or atleast option) a convertible hardtop so that it would be better in colder climates. Plus it would be a good image move for Subaru with their whole premium brand move or whatever. dancing_bear 08-31-2005, 08:20 AM In my view, Subaru's are AWD. Nothing else RedTRex 08-31-2005, 08:47 AM I agree it (roadster market) would be a tough crowd, but the SUV market is more intense and the Tribeca is doing okay.... zer0_thirteen 08-31-2005, 08:49 AM In my view, it'd sell better than the Baja! (they should bring back the Brat for a year) Stonebaru 08-31-2005, 08:52 AM in my view, why would you want to add AWD weight, as miniscule as that may POSSIBLY be engineered to be, to a car that is supposed to be super light and fun? I too feel it then becomes something else other than a roadster at that point. And when did AWD become the be all end all? I would SO much rather have RWD in a car that is a 2 seater fair weather fun-only car anyway, as RWD is WAYYYY more fun (breaking traction, a little drifting, etc etc). oops, that was in my view. Also, in my view, the scrambler would have to spend some serious time at beauty school before it even got a glance from me. Look at the new mx5, the Sky, and about any other roadster and THEN look at the scrambler. brrrrrrrrrr, scary. BillT 08-31-2005, 09:31 AM A 2 seater convertible with the STI drivetrain for under $35k would make a nice alternative to a S2000 and one with the WRX drivetrain for under $30k would give buyers of the Miata, Sky, and Solstice something to think about. DISCLAIMER: This statement was purely based on an opinion, not something set in stone. ;)If you enter a saturated market with a superior product, you will be saturated with sales. As for the raging debate over RWD vs AWD, just give the system a heavy RW bias, like BMW's xi models. /problem. bull3964 08-31-2005, 12:18 PM Roadsters are a saturated market with lots of already good offerings there. I think it would be a bad business move for Subaru to go there, personally. In stark contrast to the car based SUV market! Timbuk 08-31-2005, 12:35 PM If they did form a team to develop a roadster, I would hope that it doesn't look very much like the prototype in those pictures. That thing is hideous (but so was the 06 impreza when i first saw it, now not so bad). Perhaps we'll wait to see what happens with the new Saturn. Saturn is not known for making sportscars and have developed a brand new roadster. Lets see if anyone is going to buy it. Jon [in CT] 08-31-2005, 01:34 PM How many AWD roadsters are on the market now in the US? Would Sunbelt residents be more interested in a drop-top Subaru than existing Subarus with just a moonroof? Getagrip 08-31-2005, 01:52 PM A 2 seater convertible with the STI drivetrain for under $35k would make a nice alternative to a S2000 and one with the WRX drivetrain for under $30k would give buyers of the Miata, Sky, and Solstice something to think about. Then maybe some crossbuyers of the Audi TT Beaverboy 08-31-2005, 04:01 PM In my view, roadsters are RWD. Nothing else. :o -Matt Why MattDell don't Lotus Elan? :( http://www.veafotoaqui.com/images_CARROS/0000_LotusElanS2_6.jpg Keshav 08-31-2005, 06:55 PM roadsters leak oil and are driven by brits with bad teeth, nothing else. rloewy 09-01-2005, 12:37 PM I have 2 roadsters (and an Impreza wagon for the wife). I would not be interested in an AWD roadster - I just do not see the appeal. Roadsters need to be light and have rear wheel drive with some twitchiness (sp?). As much as I love the Subaru and it's AWD - the character is all wrong for a roadster. Just my $0.02 |
