AWD Convertible 2-Seater does not make a Roadster.

In my view, roadsters are RWD. Nothing else. :o

Apparently in his mind. Thats where opinions are formed. Not alot of stone is formed there though.

I personally would welcome the Scrambler. It would be sweet to have a "real sports car" in the Subaru lineup.

true roadsters don't have tops at all.

Nowhere, that's why I said "In my view." Contextual objects help you understand and comprehend. ;)

Something simple and Miata-like would be nice, too. It would have AWD, but otherwise be very basic and lightweight to keep the cost down. The new N/A 2.5L non-turbo would work just fine. It would be the first Subaru sports car proper. :)

Roadsters are a saturated market with lots of already good offerings there. I think it would be a bad business move for Subaru to go there, personally.

DISCLAIMER: This statement was purely based on an opinion, not something set in stone. ;)

I think it would be good for them. If they kept the price down to between the miata and S2000 range, they'd be the only AWD roadster in that range. If they wanted to further set it apart they could include(or atleast option) a convertible hardtop so that it would be better in colder climates. Plus it would be a good image move for Subaru with their whole premium brand move or whatever.

I agree it (roadster market) would be a tough crowd, but the SUV market is more intense and the Tribeca is doing okay....

In my view, it'd sell better than the Baja!

(they should bring back the Brat for a year)

in my view, why would you want to add AWD weight, as miniscule as that may POSSIBLY be engineered to be, to a car that is supposed to be super light and fun? I too feel it then becomes something else other than a roadster at that point.

And when did AWD become the be all end all? I would SO much rather have RWD in a car that is a 2 seater fair weather fun-only car anyway, as RWD is WAYYYY more fun (breaking traction, a little drifting, etc etc).
oops, that was in my view.

Also, in my view, the scrambler would have to spend some serious time at beauty school before it even got a glance from me. Look at the new mx5, the Sky, and about any other roadster and THEN look at the scrambler. brrrrrrrrrr, scary.

A 2 seater convertible with the STI drivetrain for under $35k would make a nice alternative to a S2000 and one with the WRX drivetrain for under $30k would give buyers of the Miata, Sky, and Solstice something to think about.

As for the raging debate over RWD vs AWD, just give the system a heavy RW bias, like BMW's xi models. /problem.

In stark contrast to the car based SUV market!

If they did form a team to develop a roadster, I would hope that it doesn't look very much like the prototype in those pictures. That thing is hideous (but so was the 06 impreza when i first saw it, now not so bad).

Perhaps we'll wait to see what happens with the new Saturn. Saturn is not known for making sportscars and have developed a brand new roadster. Lets see if anyone is going to buy it.

How many AWD roadsters are on the market now in the US? Would Sunbelt residents be more interested in a drop-top Subaru than existing Subarus with just a moonroof?

Then maybe some crossbuyers of the Audi TT

I have 2 roadsters (and an Impreza wagon for the wife). I would not be interested in an AWD roadster - I just do not see the appeal. Roadsters need to be light and have rear wheel drive with some twitchiness (sp?). As much as I love the Subaru and it's AWD - the character is all wrong for a roadster.

Just my $0.02
