I was digging around the Car Parts Review forum for some reviews on the Kartboy shifter. After looking at some install pics, I noticed that I had the factory short throw (which sucked) and that there was a different PN for this vs. the factory non-short throw shifter. I did coerce it to go into the factory position, but in the process tore up the bushings. Anyone else have this problem?

ehh, if you know that it is the wrong one, and you tore up the bushing...I'd not drive with it till it was replaced...shifter and bushings.

Well, I didn't screw up the under the car bushing, it was the one that goes through the actual shifter.

Hi
you need to get the shifter for the earlier RS chassis. its narrower than the OE WRX one. i believe it states this on the website. your best bet is to get the new blue bushings from the dealer. you can grind or have someone machine the shifter down to the right width. if you would have stopped the install i could have exhanged it for you no problem. :( but i cannot resell used parts.

I understand about the used parts thing. I take it the bushing that came with the kit will be okay? Would it be easier to replace the rod than have the shifter ground?

I see it on the site now. I just didn't realize that 5 spd STi=Crappy OE short throw. Oh well.

stock is 36.4MM the narrower one is 29.2mm wide.
the bushings with the shifter are for the shifter arm underneath the car. they are the same for all the 5 speed cars. They will work just fine.
if you can find the RS shift linkage you can swap that out no problems. i dont know whats easier for you.
