Anybody happen to tape this episode ? Just watched it 3:30 est on TNN. First feature, nothing but good words. Good propoganda to use on the significant other when pushing the need for a WRX. Like to get my hands on an mpg of it if possible.

Didnt tape it. Also was on MotorWeek this saturday, both shows had nothing but praise.

Actually, nothing but good words, except, they said it was ugly.

I caught just the last part of the show... if they played it yesterday, like they normally do, I would of had it recorded.

I ordered a tape of it, and once I get it, I will convert it.

They didn't say ugly. The opening words were:

"Impreza. WRX. Yes, its finally here, and, yes, it is a bit homley, but you need to get over that right now. If this new Subaru had actually been good looking, it might well have been more than we can handle, becuase this is truely an aceptional performance car, that is virtually a clone of the race winning world cup rally car. "

Good review, I've been waiting. I assume the Motorweek episode was a rerun?

Well, I take the "If this new Subaru had actually been good looking, it might well have been more than we can handle", as saying something negative.

Motorweek said it was "ugly". They said it was a cross between a neon and a saturn. But they loved the power, handling, brakes, etc. I thought it was a great review. They were using the car on dirt and gravel the way it was meant to be. The car is not ugly just different. I think it is a beautiful car.

Car & Driver, not Motorweek. Wrong name, right review.

Neon? Saturn? Oh no..... That is quite an insult. It may have headlights that remind people of a Neon, but porsche and VW both have headlights that look somewhat simular do they not?

I love the performance, and the looks as well.

Did anybody notice when they mentioned the WRX sport wagon as an option they put up a pic of a 2002 OBS? Who does the editing! If they had actually driven a real WRX sport wagon they might have changed their tune about ugly. IMHO the wagon has the best overall look with the new styling.

 When are people going to stop making statements like "A WRX looks like a cross between a Saturn and a Neon". I own both a WRX and a Neon and parked next to each other there is no resemblance. I'll make my own statement....."Anyone who thinks a WRX looks like a Neon or Saturn is a cross eyed moron!" LOL C

Haven't seen the Motorweek feature yet. Someone gonna tape it ? Don't think I'll make it home in time.

If this is the same motorweek that was aired a while ago (may?) (I assume it is since someone mentioned the OBS pic), you can watch it here:http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=ethen&templatefn=FileSharing.html&aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en : thanks to firewrx.

when will WRX owners stop being so crazily defensive when someone mentions the looks of the car?

hkwan

Don't know if they actually tested it on the track, but did anyone catch it when the guy mentioned the car will scream all the way to 140mph??

Philip
08-20-2001, 05:11 PM
JGard18, whats wrong with being defensive!!!! My car is ugly, and it will probally always be ugly, since I will spend more money on performance than looks, but I still don't like other people telling me that its ugly, because it isn't.........

Actually, I don't think my car is flashy, or pretty, but I also don't consider it ugly. I also don't care if others think that way, since I do understand why they are saying things like "bugged eye" lights, etc..... If I could get the wrx in a classic malibu body, I would be in heaven already........ thats just not going to happen. No matter how many times I dusted the trans am, he still was pissed he got beat by a "bugged eyed, flat nosed, non-wedge shapped, subaru" and nothing I will say is going to help that.....

Now that I have gotten totally off-topic, I should have motorweek recorded today, if that does happen, I can convert it to mpg.

Still haven't heard if all this recording I am doing off the TV is legal or not. :p

Not to mention that classic WRX headlights don't work that well. The beam pattern is very bad and Brucelee's 6' long Maglight can do a better job lighting the road. Ever wondered why Morrette made the "classic" WRX twin headlight conversion?

With my RS, I never relied on headlights. It it wasn't for my PIAA Pro XT 80 foglights, I would be very unhappy.

On the other hand, WRX "bug ugly" headlights work better than the old ones. I am not even saying anything about the STi projector lights that one can get for ~1500.

So, since we all know that most Impreza guys are "Function over Fashion" type of people, you should worship the NEW WRX.

On the subject of headlights:

I think morrette's are fugly, but the STi HID's look freaking awesome. :D

BUT

Who cares what I think? It's everybody's own car, but I can tell you that when I get my STi, it better have the HID's!! :D

We got the jump on the MiniCooper. If it catches on, Imprezas will be considered good-looking.

Well as others have already figured out, Motorweek was a bust.... they state it was going to be one show, and then show a different one. Nothing worth recording to disk.

A: When people stop commenting on the looks of the car :p

If you think people are going to quit commenting on the looks of cars you are crazy. The point is who cares if people say the car is ugly don't take it so personal. It does not follow the present design rules so people say it is ugly. Just tell them they better like the way the rear looks cause thats all their going to see.
