Thinking about switching to this ester based oil. I have an email into SOA but i know they are just going to say as long as it meets the standards specified in the manual it is ok to use.

If you are using this oil how do you like?
I've heard this ester based oil is so fine that it can slip past seals and end up being burnt.
Do you find your car burning more oil now?

WRC Subaru's use all Motul fluids...and I know lots of locals, here, that use it and have been using it....

I switched from Amsoil (which I'd used since 7k approx) to Motul 3100 at about 48k. I now have 55k and will be switching back to Amsoil when I'm done with the 12 liters of Motul I bought. I've noticed oil temps have been approx 15 degrees Celsius higher, oil pressure seems more inconsistent, and it's more expensive. It was also a PITA to source, for me, anyway. Just my experience. I opted to try it for the reason Scotty cited.

Mobil Delvac 1 or Lubrication Engineers 8530 MONOLEC are both F A R better oils. Visit www.bobistheoilguy.com if you need any more oil info.

I'm currently using Castrol GTX until 10k, then I want to switch to Motul 300V or 8100Eco.

Went to super autobaks and they were out of motul 5w-40 so I went with Amsoil 10w-40.

So far I like it!

The 8100 Eco-nergy 5W30 is thinner than M1 5W30. I would only use one of the 40 weights in a modified STi, unless I saw a used oil analysis on the 5W30 in another STi. Not all of the 8100 oils are not ester based, probably PAO I guess.

Wow good to know info. Going to a thicker grade i.e. 5w-40 and of course staying SOA spec could "cure" the oil from being too thin? Just curious. :)

How about trying the Amsoil 5w-40 European Formula.
