What kind of gas do you need to put in the thing? Can you use regular unleaded gas? I know they recomend Super Unleaded but want to know if I can use the cheaper gas.

This is a direct quote from the Owners Manual: "The engine is designed to operate using premium unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 91 AKI or higher. If premium unleaed gasoline is not available, regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 AKI or higher may be temporarily used. For optimum engine performance and driveability, it is recommended that you use premium grade unleaded gasoline." According to two different Subaru salesmen, using 87 octane will NOT damage your engine. (In fact when my Subaru dealer sold me my Tribeca I am pretty sure that they filled my tank with 87 octane. ) The one thing that they did stress was that I would get overall better performance and mileage with Premium. totald 09-05-2005, 07:53 PM I was also told when we bought my wifes tribeca that when using the 87 we might have 230 hp instead of 250 hp. Just an example not actual numbers. HB_Dad 09-06-2005, 03:23 AM What kind of gas do you need to put in the thing? Can you use regular unleaded gas? Until Bush gets some balls and stands up to the oil lobby about these BS gas prices, you can simply use 87 Octane and buy some octane boost at your local auto parts store. A bottle only costs a couple of bucks! totald 09-07-2005, 06:10 AM Yeah, but that couple of bucks will pay for the higher octane fuel also. I put 93 in my car and my wifes B9. For the B9, a 16.9 gallon tank if I am not mistaken, a tank full of 87 would be about $47.15 where a tank of 93 would be $50.53. A difference of $3.38. This is based on $.20 increase from the low octane to the high. I think it is well worth the extra couple of bucks to have your engine run the way it is supposed to. A bottle only costs a couple of bucks! Yeah, a couple of bucks probably gives you 0.1 Octane boost. Octane boost does not work unless you use A LOT which will cost more than premium gas. only1agam 09-08-2005, 11:10 PM i work at a subaru dealership i recommend that u use premium bc subaru of america will void the warranty if you get a pinging noise due to using lower octane fuel.. they simply wont help u because if u look at the gas lid it says premium fuel only shipjumper 09-23-2005, 08:09 PM mr agam.... Please try using caps, and full words, you type like you are 8 and text messaging someone. Im not being an english nazi, but it just looks childish from everyones elses end... pcdanno 09-24-2005, 12:08 PM i work at a subaru dealership i recommend that u use premium bc subaru of america will void the warranty if you get a pinging noise due to using lower octane fuel.. they simply wont help u because if u look at the gas lid it says premium fuel only The gas lid does NOT say premium fuel only. It says Unleaded Fuel ony. Premium Recommended. Essentially it states what I quoted earlier from the owners manual. That is, premium is recommended but unleaded 87 octane is okay. xdr2 09-24-2005, 11:54 PM Well no more thinking about the Tribeca. I opted for an X5 instead. RexyGirl 09-26-2005, 05:28 PM i work at a subaru dealership i recommend that u use premium bc subaru of america will void the warranty if you get a pinging noise due to using lower octane fuel.. they simply wont help u because if u look at the gas lid it says premium fuel only They CAN'T void your warranty, especially if the owners manual says it's okay in an emergancy or once in a while. What they CAN do is tell you to that if you continue to use it, and it damages your engine (which is doubtful and they would have to prove it), they can decline the repair, but they CANNOT void your warranty. I have seen people put regular gas in instead of premium (in the WRX) and they say it makes the car hesitate....haven't had experience with the Tribeca yet. If you can stand they way that it drives, do it once and a while. You have to drive the car..... Foxbat 09-26-2005, 06:15 PM For Turbo engine: Premium is REQUIRED For non-Turbo H-6 Engine: Premium is not REQUIRED but RECOMMENDED I think only1agam mistakenly took the advice for WRX/LGT/XT for Tribeca. only1agam 09-30-2005, 12:14 PM For Turbo engine: Premium is REQUIRED For non-Turbo H-6 Engine: Premium is not REQUIRED but RECOMMENDED I think only1agam mistakenly took the advice for WRX/LGT/XT for Tribeca. ^exactly sorry for the confusion.. after a couple of thousand miles in a vehicle that requires premium fuel, if you use regular fuels you may here a pinging noise in the engine.. we had a customer a while back with a H6 Outback (this was before i worked) that only used regular fuel and developed a pinging noise due to lower octane... SOA wouldnt fix the problem bc the manual talked of using regular in the case of emergencys.. NOT on a regular basis.. the B9 has that same H6 as the Outback and we do tell all of our customers that premium IS recommended shipjumper 09-30-2005, 12:20 PM I see you took my advice  helmet11 10-01-2005, 03:37 AM OMG U Hurt my feelins 2.
