View Full Version : 30K Service next week...advice?
wgb113 09-08-2005, 02:08 PM This is the first service with my CAI and catback exhaust. Hopefully they don't give me a hard time about those but is there any advice for this service?
Should I supply my own brake fluid? ATF?
The cost is $280 plus anything that needs to be replaced like brake pads. I just went through a state inspection 2 months ago and the brake pads/rotors were fine.

perret318 09-08-2005, 03:05 PM My advice: start bending over. 30K is expensive. $280 would be nice, but expect to pay $300-$400 with everything else they'll throw on top of that.
wgb113 09-08-2005, 03:08 PM Thanks but what "else" should I watch for them throwing in?

Print out your schedule. Then have them ONLY do what is on it. Most dealers add stuff and say "its required for your warranty". When you have black and white proof from the horse's mouth, you can tell them to suck it. To be extra devious, have them do their "30k" and then go over the invoice with this list. Anything extra is then free! :)

If your brake pads need to be replaced, and you are under 36K miles, they are covered under the warranty. Remember, wear and tear items are covered for 3/36.

Sweet! I'm throwing my stock intake back on as well (hopefully they'll throw in a new air filter).

Air filter should be included witht the service
Here's what we do:
2001 MY and newer:
Oil and filter change, tire rotation, (balance if needed), air filter, fuel filter, coolant flush, brake flush, trans service, differential service, wipers, pcv service, spark plugs, (if applicable), and v-belts all for $359.95
wgb113 09-08-2005, 04:51 PM Air filter is indeed replaced under warranty at this service...for free of course.
Gotta tell'em to keep their paws off of my new wipers!!

An air filter is usually not covered under warranty, It is a maintenance item and gets replaced at 30K. I have yet to see a "defective" air filter.
Not all dealers do the same exact service. You need to check with your dealer. We go by the book except for the transmission service which we added for here in Florida. Most customers wanted to do it anyway, so we included it in the service.
If you are comfortable, I hear that most can be done yourself.
wgb113 09-09-2005, 09:05 AM You need to check with your dealer
That's what I did. They said replacement of the air filter is included in the $280.
Any recommendations on a better brake fluid that I could supply?
Bill
dru_hill 09-09-2005, 10:56 AM I am doing this too, and you will save a lot of money if you replace all your fluids yourself and just have them do the inspections and checks. I was just at the dealer for something else and they said as long as you use whats recomened in the manual and keep recipets, it will be no problem. My dealer wants like $581 for the full service, I can change oil and trans oil, and coolant myself and save $95/hr labor. :)
wgb113 09-14-2005, 01:54 PM It's done...just gotta go pick it up...total? $244.05

SUBIEWRX03 09-19-2005, 12:36 AM Does the Dealer really try to say that if you dont do the service through them it can void the warranty? Thats not true is it?

Not true at all, just document that all of the items are done and you should be just fine as far as warranty concerns go.
