I just purchased an ipod and my hu isnt ipod ready. I would rather not use the fm transmitters because of sound quality. So in order to connect the ipod in the the aux, would i need a male:male cable or a female:male cable? It is a panasonic hu. thanks in advance.

if your hu has an aux-in then you just need a 1/8 male to male. but since you said your hu isn't ipod ready then that might not work.

use an aux input NOT a ipod controller for the hu, they are slow as crap and well.... suck. Just look at the back of your hu and check what connections you need. I think yours has 2 stereo inputs. Get a 4 foot Stereo RCA to Headphhone cable and you will be happy :)

... to connect the ipod in the the aux [input on a panasonic hu], would i need a male:male cable or a female:male cable? ... the head unit has aux1 and aux 2You'll probably find that your after-market head unit uses RCA jacks for the Aux inputs. So you'll want a cable that has male RCA plugs (left and right channels) and a male 1/8" stereo headphone plug. Radio Shack has several:
42-2550 $5.99 3' with straight headphone plug
42-2551 $6.99 6' with straight headphone plug
42-2483 $7.99 6' with right-angle headphone plug
Some head units have a strange jack on the back (intended for that manufacturer's own CD changer). On those you'll need an adapter cable (from that manufacturer) that converts to RCA jacks, and then a cable like one of the above.

Yeah, but using the Ipod controller would make it easier to scroll through on your head unit, correct? If you are Ipod ready, of course.

Yes. And not all the iPod controllers suck. The Kenwood unit combine with my DDX is great, and plenty fast.
