hey
i have a POS 91 ranger non-extended cab
my friend is giving me a good deal on a 10" qlogic box for 40$

the cubic footage is .6 and i think the mounting depth is gonna be around 6"

i need some help on finding a sub

i dont really want to spend more than 150 on 1
im pretty much between the infinity reference (60$), or infinity perfect(150)
i just like infinitys cuz my friend has a 12 and it hits loud
would it make a big difference about the cubic footage, the perfect requires .6 and thats all the box is

is it better to fill it or to get a smaller sub requirement

thanks =))

wow, i just saw that at thezeb.com they have an audiobahn 10" for 70$
it says it requires a .5-1.1 cubic foot box

would this be a good sub or not

Sometimes you have to be careful about Audiobahn subs-Audiobahn is known for ENORMOUS magnets on their speakers.

What kind of power are you looking to give it?

well i know the audiobahn is 700rms and the perfect is 350rms
i dont really care about power, but it depends on how much i can get amp for, lookin around 250 for amp

Get the Perfect.
You'll spend a lot more trying to get a good amp for the Audiobahn.

$250? That should be more than enough.

Perfects are good subs. So are JLs-the w3 may be exactly what you're looking for. I like the Excelon db subs a lot too, and I'll bet they don't require much space.

I think I can help you out. I have owned both audiobahn and infinity products. First off they are two different subs all together. The audiobahns are a spl(sound pressure level) sub which means that they are more for loudness then quality. The perfects are an aluminum cone and are sq(sound quality) subs. Now the Audiohbahns will play loud and the perfects much cleaner. It just depends what you listen to. IMO I would get the perfect. They get plenty loud on there own and are so much cleaner sounding. They are more expensive though, so if you are on a bugdet the Audiobahns will do a good job. Dont worry about the power ratings on the subs. Audiobahn has been know to litely overrate there subs and infinty to just plain undercut theres. The perfect 10 will take 500-600 watts without a problem. Just look at sounddomain.com. You can learn alot if it interests you. If you are interested in the perfect I have a friend who is selling a new one but it's already in a small sealed box. Just email me if you are interested at all. Hope it helps.

I really like the Infinity Perfects too, not only do they have the power but look bad as hell too. I have been hearing alot about thezeb.com just checked it out and i was totally blown away, never ever saw prices that low. I could probably even afford that MTX Competion 15 and a 1000 watt MTX amp at those prices. It costs 999.95 in crutchfield, and only like 529.00 at the zeb. Thanks ya'll for telling me about that site. I just payed about 60 dollars more for the orions i just bought then are listed there

have you listened to any Kicker subs. I have one and I am very happy with it. I just want to change the box for it to a custom box to take up less trunk space. Try the XPL or the Solobaric subs.

Nick.

I know you guys are sick of these by now. But for the best SQ w/ decent high SPL to work in the relatively small volume you have (0.6c/f). The best sub you can get is the JL 10W3-4. Put clean power to it and it will far & away outshine the others. The relatively small magnet has density but less mass which means it would require less voltage (read watts) to produce more sound.

They don't look pretty, they don't go really low & they are as basic a sub as you're gonna get but you CANNOT beat the sound quality at any volume at that price. If money were no object go with Xtant or Velodyne. We are working on a budget here. You can also find JL's on sale just about every where.
I also like the Perfect 10s, always have.

OK guys I'm going to come in and say that while the advice given has been very good, no one has mentioned the obvious... lose the Qlogic box!!

If you use it, it won't matter what sub you use, it'll sound a lot crappier than it would with a custom designed + braced MDF box.

IMO "Good sound" is a weighted average of componentry and install. For my "good sound" ratio, component selection is a lot less important than a proper install. I'm not alone in that view either.

Walk into a Fishman's Jensen van and it will probably astound you... I haven't heard it myself though. Anyway I just thought I'd chime in with my 2 cents.

Oh and as for the subs... Image is everything! ;)

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I won't buy a sub with foam surrounds. I've heard they deteriorate over time compared to rubber surrounds. IIRC, most of the lower subs in various lines (like JL, Rockford, and even Alumapro) are foam. IMHO, perhaps the best sub for the money is the Audiomobile EVO. These things are only available direct, so no price discrepency between different stores. They are heavily over-engineered, and I read an article where one 10" EVO outperformed a 12" perfect. If nothing else, I would recommend checking them out. :)

The Alpine Type R subwoofer is a very similar sub to the perfects, but costs less. If you want to save some money, go with those.

Here you go. This site also has a forum that's helpful, and you can search for your opinions of subs there.
Alpine Subs (http://www.sounddomain.com/shop/item.pl?sku=ALPSWR1240D&vq_id=)

Oh yeah, its a type R, so it gives you like 100 hp :D ;)
